High School Special Education Teacher – Learning Resource Center
This is a special education teaching position at the high school level for students with learning challenges that require specifically designed instruction. This position requires a valid Oregon teaching license with a Handicapped Learner endorsement or the ability to obtain one by the beginning of the school year. The position requires the ability to manage student behavior, differentiate instruction, provide transition programming, and the ability to schedule and organize paraprofessionals to facilitate effective instruction and student success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position. Individual employees may perform all or some combination of the duties listed below as well as other related duties.
Maintains a cooperative relationship with fellow staff members, students, and the general public.
Adheres to district, state, and federal laws, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Works cooperatively with school staff to provide the most appropriate program for students with disabilities.
Plans individualized curriculum, lessons, and transition activities.
Discerns student needs and applies appropriate learning activities for eligible students.
Evaluates, selects, and prepares materials for use in specially designed instruction.
Develops a record keeping system to facilitate short-term and long-term evaluation of student progress.
Maintains appropriate Special Education records for assigned students.
Trains, coordinates, and manages assistants, tutors, and volunteers as appropriate.
Refers students who need specialized help to appropriate personnel.
Modifies curriculum and ensures accommodations in cooperation with general education teachers.
Maintains contact with parents of students.
Evaluates student performance based on work output and observation and maintains a comprehensive system for collection so progress on student goals can be accurately measured.
Proficiently manages all special education paperwork from initial referrals for evaluation, to IEPs, to exiting students.
Prepares report cards, progress reports, educational records, classroom observation records, and other forms as required.
Attends building and district level meetings as required.
Engages in professional growth through a variety of means.
Be able to work in a variety of settings including classroom, school buildings, and office environments.
Provide own transportation as deemed necessary for traveling to schools and districts throughout the school day.
Use computer to generate documents on a word processor or database for extended periods of time.
