5th Grade Teacher

Supervisor: Middle Division Director Position Status: Full Time/10 Month/Exempt

Swift School is an independent school serving grades 1-8 located in Roswell, GA 20 minutes north of Atlanta. Serving a population of approximately 180 students, Swift’s mission is to prepare students with dyslexia and related language-based learning differences to be successful in life. We recognize that each child is unique, and our teaching approach, time frame, and expected outcomes reflect the student’s individuality. Given that students have a variety of needs, our teachers and administrators often interact with external support professionals to ensure the best overall academic plan for each student.

A Swift Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing the instructional program assigned that results in students achieving academic success. Swift’s Middle Division faculty are assigned one or two content areas to teach, along with homeroom and advisory class responsibilities. Applicants should have an understanding of the Orton-Gillingham Approach and a passion for working with students with dyslexia and language-based learning differences.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree or higher is required with preference given to degrees in education-related fields

• Teaching experience in the field of language learning differences preferred

• Orton-Gillingham training and/or experience with learning differences preferred

Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver instructional lessons that are structured, multi-sensory, and targeted to individual learning styles in way that contribute to students reaching their full potential

• Ensure that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate

• Conduct student assessments to create an intervention plan that matches the student’s needs

• Establish individual goals for student achievement

• Integrate appropriate technology tools into classroom instructional activities and lessons

• Maintain effective and accurate records of communication and student data

• Collaborate with peers to enhance a positive instructional environment

• Authentically engage in self-reflection and annual development of a growth and renewal plan. This includes written goals and progress toward those goals.
