Sycuan Education department is looking to hire a part-time Tutor for the Learning Center and Teen Center!

The tutor will support the development of healthy spirits, minds, and bodies in the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, as well as other community members. To ensure Sycuan’s sovereignty and survival for future generations of Kumeyaay, the Sycuan Education Department is dedicated to providing enrichment programs to address the individual needs of each learner, infant to elder, to build respectful, responsible citizens who retain their identity and culture.

Job Purpose: Assists students academically for proactive or remedial purposes

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides private instruction to students by teaching students study skills, note taking skills, test taking strategies, assisting with homework, discussing testing techniques, working on solutions to problems, reviewing worksheets or other assignments, and assessing students' progress throughout the tutoring session. - 35%
• Promotes productivity and learning by organizing tutoring environment, keeping area free of unnecessary distractions, and promoting productivity and learning. - 25%
• Provides constructive feedback to students by using positive reinforcement techniques, encouraging, motivating, and building confidence in students. - 25%
• Communicates student progress by maintaining and updating student records and following up with the education departmental staff. - 15%

Job Specifications: Education and Experience:

Essential:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• CPR and First Aid Certificate

Desirable:

• Associates Degree Child Development or other education related field
• Single or multiple subject teaching credential
• Courses in Kumeyaay studies

Skills and Knowledge: Essential:

• Ability to work with children from Kindergarten to 12th grade
• Ability to plan curriculum
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
• Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks and assignments
• Ability to understand and follow verbal directives and written directions
• Ability to sit, stand and walk for up to 8 hours a day
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks
• Ability to appear for work on time
