Job Description
The Claims/Risk Management Specialist, Business and Insurance, is an exempt position and reports to the Director, Office of Institutional Risk Management under Business, Finance and Administrative Services. The position is responsible for the management and support of the administration of University’s business, property and general liability claims, providing underwriting support to the Director, and coordinating with third party administrators. The position is management confidential and works with a range of mid to high profile cases.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training/experience required.
  • Minimum of five (5) year experience in general liability and insurance claims handling experience required.
  • Experience in a university or college setting preferred.
  • Professional certification (ARM, RIMS-CRMP, etc.) preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication with emphasis on telephone communication required.
  • Strong math and reading comprehension skills.
  • Responds positively to direction and criticism of performance.
  • Consistently maintains professional and appropriate demeanor.

Responsibilities
  • Manages and resolves complex business and general liability claims and daily operations of the property and casualty insurance program.
  • Provides underwriting support, including renewal submissions, to Director.
  • Coordinates claims with third party administrators.
  • Administers and coordinates Certificates of Insurance program as requested.
  • Administers and coordinates University surety bonds.
  • Provides consultative advice to schools/colleges and departments on insurance programs.
  • Working with Third Party Administrators, insurance carriers, and brokers; analyzes and investigates business claims, (property, general liability, fine arts, automobile etc.) for proper adjudication.
  • Keeps abreast of trends, attends seminars related to tort law, insurance claims management best practices, etc. and updates.
  • Uses analytical, technical and oral/written communication skills.
  • Maintains confidential files and records.
  • Administrative duties as required (setting meetings, correspondence, etc.)
