Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Director of Gift Planning, the Director will identify, cultivate and solicit individuals capable of making blended or planned gifts to the University and work closely with alumni leaders and volunteers on a national level.
Steward existing donors.
The Director will work collaboratively with college and unit-based development officers and central services of Alumni Relations, Marketing & Communications, Prospect Management and Donor Relations.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and 5 years of practical work experience in non-profit or higher education environment with fundraising experience.
Experience in gift solicitation and closure is essential.
Proficiency in database management tools and customer relationships management systems critical. Strength in Windows-based applications, specifically Microsoft Office’s suite required.
Knowledge of Blackbaud/CRM system strongly preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications
Knowledge of planned gift vehicles such as charitable lead trusts, gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, charitable bequests, annual support strategies and other non-traditional gifts is essential.
Must demonstrate strong management, leadership, and analytical skills.
Must have five or more years of experience preferably working in a higher education environment in a fundraising capacity.
Outstanding ability to use data to make and implement strategic decisions.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, discretion, and the ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality inside and outside the Division.
Must be able to work independently, yet interact with a team and show initiative.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, creativity, and demonstrated success in managing multiple projects. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a caseload of donor prospects across the country and effectively plan and implement strategies to solicit donors for planned gifts. Work independently and collaboratively with the school, college and unit development officers.
  • Personally solicit blended and planned gifts and non-cash assets as well as prepare proposals and reports as necessary.
  • Manage multiple projects while stewarding a portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Report results of all gifts/solicitation efforts in the CITRUS/CRM database.
  • Develop and keep updated donor plans and opportunities.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timely entry of all information and records.
  • Develop and implement efforts on initiating, directing, and executing strategic plans to meet the university’s fundraising/campaign objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Gift Planning team, to help create strategic integrated plans with prospect and donor constituencies.
  • Lead specific integration plans with defined units throughout campus and regional teams.
  • Assist in defining and executing processes and systems for optimized production.
  • Assist with marketing and communications of the department.
  • Develop professionally with outside and Syracuse University trainings.
  • Manage own travel arrangements including hotel, flight, and car rental reservations, and credit card reconciliations.
  • Perform related duties as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions related to this position.
