The Director of Corporate Development will develop Sysco’s long-term strategy for mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships aligned with Sysco’s enterprise strategy, including:
1. Work across the organization, including Corporate Development, Commercial, Supply Chain, Enterprise Strategy , and the leadership of the relevant business units to develop the strategy, identify key priorities and choices that allow Sysco to deliver its growth ambitions, and manage trade-offs required to realize Sysco’s vision
2. Support high-priority strategic growth areas, including conducting analysis on markets, customers, competitors, and drivers of change and disruption. Frame and structure disparate ideas and information to make them concrete and actionable.
3. Conduct both quantitative and qualitative analysis to evaluate new market opportunities for the enterprise that extend beyond our current businesses and develop associated business cases and recommendations for senior executives, C-suite and Board of Directors
4. Evaluate key strategic questions from leadership to ensure our company is best positioned to deliver on our commitments to customers, clients, and shareholders.
5. Screen potential acquisitions and develop profiles of M&A targets. Develop relationships with intermediaries representing prospective sellers.
6.. Act as the consolidator of inbound inquiries from sellers and their intermediaries. Develop the initial point of view on how to respond to these inquiries (e.g, pursue, pass, learn more). Test prospective acquisitions with leaders from the business units and the relevant functions (e.g., Commercial, Supply Chain). Support the process of filtering in external outreach requests to those that should be explored further..
7. Develop the investment thesis for potential acquisitions. Work with internal stakeholders and leadership of M&A targets to test the thesis.
8. Identify ways to grow the target’s revenue and profit after the deal closes (e.g., geographic expansion, customer penetration, cost savings, synergies with other Sysco businesses) and formalize into a value creation plan. Identify the required investment to realize this growth. Work with stakeholders across the organization to test the key assumptions behind the value creation plan and collaborate with the M&A valuation team to incorporate these into the deal model.
9. Identify key risks and questions to test in due diligence. Answer these questions as part of the commercial due diligence team.
10. Articulate the strategy and the case for a deal in high-impact discussion materials for Sysco’s executive leadership and Board of Directors.
