The Role

Syscon Justice Systems is seeking a Technical Writer to strengthen its operations team. The Technical Writer's mission is to ensure all technical information is simplified to allow the organization to easily understand complex topics.

As a core member of the Syscon group, the Technical Writer is entrusted to support the global organization across our primary time zones (UK, North America, and Oceania) by successfully delivering user/admin/development guides, step-by-step how-to-tutorials, blog posts, flowcharts, infographics of our processes, new product releases, project implementations, and client knowledge. Essentially, the Technical Writer helps the organization absorb information from multiple sources and transforms it into knowledge and wisdom for Syscon.

In addition to the timely and quality of delivery, this role will also be responsible for providing process guidance and technical mentorship to all members of the organization. Additional responsibilities may be requested as the role evolves.

Scope & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with IT project teams, architects, administrators and operational delivery partners to assess systems and procedures required to deliver easily consumed, operationalized and sustainable documentation.
  • Evaluate current content and develop innovative approaches for improvement.
  • Effectively complete technical documentation with a focus on empathy for the end-user and the ability to execute the deliverable expected.
  • Provide thorough descriptions of an API's functions and how it interacts with the application.
  • Write user-friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience.
  • Utilize detailed databases of appropriate reference materials, including research, usability tests, and design specifications.
  • Write both technical and user documentation such as troubleshooting manual, release notes, quick reference guides and online help.
  • Develop a consistent method and format of documentation and establish a governing documentation process and review doc for inconsistencies across versions of the same product

Qualifications and Technology

  • A minimum of three (3) years of recent demonstrated experience as a Technical Writer providing professional, comprehensible, intuitive and high-quality documentation supporting Information Technology operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IT technical translation and documentation methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Ability to organize technical information to produce accurate documentation.
  • Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using MS Office, Jira, Confluence, Visio, Snagit, SharePoint, Madcap Flare, Online Help such as Flare Photoshop, Illustrator, or other tools to create effective illustrations of concepts, workflows, and methodology.
  • Ability to extract information from interviews, technical documents, test data and hands-on work and convert it to an appropriate level for the intended audience.
  • Work with various stakeholders to nurture strong working relationships with internal and external colleagues.
  • Working experience with a variety of operating systems, programming and scripting languages preferably Java, platforms and common network services and protocols.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics and new technologies.
  • Asset: Knowledge of video development tools and infographic creation

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $50,500.00 - $60,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
