Position Overview
An Engineer Advanced will support the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) mission to develop, test, and field an integrated, layered, ballistic missile defense system (BMDS) to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends against all ranges of enemy ballistic missiles in all phases of flight. The Engineer shall safeguard BMDS IS/PITs in compliance with Federal, DoD and MDA cybersecurity policies through improved cybersecurity integration into the system architecture, system life cycles, and accreditation documentation by performing Information Assurance Workforce System Architecture and Engineering (IASAE) for the BMDS mission (weapon system) and MDA/BMDS non-mission (MDA Admin/Genser and BMDS RDT&E) information systems.
The Engineer Advanced duties include, but are not limited to:
- Monitor, oversee, and provide cybersecurity measure recommendations to the CMO for the design, development, implementation and integration of DoD IA architecture, system, or system component for use within the computer, network, and/or enclave integrated environments
- Analyze and provide cybersecurity measure recommendations to the CMO that the integration of the ISs/PITs architecture and design are functional and secure; to include designs for programs of record systems and special purpose environments with platform IT interconnectivity, as well as system or network designs that encompass multiple computer, network and/or enclave environments, and those with differing data protection/classification requirements
- Identify cybersecurity measure information protection needs to the CMO for the computer, network, and enclave integrated environments
- Provide cybersecurity architecture design recommendations to the CMO for use within the computer, network, and/or enclave integrated environments.
- Provide product, design, and development recommendations to the CMO for cybersecurity-enabled products for use within the integrated enclave environment
- Provide architecture and design recommendations to the CMO for systems and networks with multilevel security requirements, or requirements for the processing of multiple classification levels of data (e.g., UNCLASSIFIED, SECRET, and TOP SECRET)
- Provide cybersecurity development and implementation design recommendations to the CMO for new or existing integrated enclave environments.
- Continually assess the effectiveness of information protection measures utilized by the computer, network, and enclave integrated environments.
- Continually assess the design of hardware, operating systems, and software applications that they adequately address cybersecurity requirements for the enclave integrated environment.
Required Skills (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
- Ability to apply knowledge of cybersecurity policy, procedures, and workforce structure to design, development, and implementation recommendations for a secure enclave environment.
- Provides organized architectural and engineering recommendations in support of management.
- Possess detailed knowledge of cybersecurity engineering, cyber forensics, network security tools and technologies, and best practices.
- Cybersecurity of networks, information systems, cloud, telecommunications, Infrastructure devices, satellite systems, databases/data warehouses/data lakes, and/or software.
- Information Assurance, Risk Management Framework (RMF), certification and accreditation.
- Experience designing ACAS and HBSS in the Enterprise or for Weapon systems
- Supply chain risk management, secure software lifecycle, applications development.
- Vulnerability analysis, scanning, and assessments; devising and implementing mitigations.
- Common cybersecurity tools such as Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS) , Security Information/Event Management (SIEM) systems, compliance tracking (Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS), etc.), and/or vulnerability scanners (Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), etc.).
- Cybersecurity intrusion detection, incident response, and/or digital forensics; cyber threat analysis, attack surface analysis.
- Systems Administration, Configuration Management.
- Cyberspace workforce management programs.
- Missile defense systems, Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Defense Industrial Base (DIB).
- Technical writing skills, presentation skills, workflow optimization.
- Productivity software: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint; Visio); PowerShell; MS SharePoint; Collaborative Tools (e.g., Skype for Business, Defense Connect Online).
- Prior experience applying the above knowledge and skills supporting the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Years of Experience/Education Requirements
- 20 years of IT experience, with 15 years of dedicated IASAE experience.
