A reputable and family-owned shipbuilding company known for its legacy of innovation and quality, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Welding Supervisor to join our team in Warren, Rhode Island. As a Welding Supervisor you will play a vital role in leading and overseeing welding operations to ensure the construction of exceptional vessels for both military and private sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Assures completion of tasks to meet contract delivery dates, and to come in at or under budget for assigned cost code hours.
- Sets up and operate welding equipment applying advanced knowledge of weld electrodes and wire, machine settings, quality and quantity standards, and the use of oxygen/acetylene gas torch for cutting and pre-heat.
- Reads and interpret work specifications, work orders, blueprints and schematics.
- Assists QC Manager with visual inspections of welds in process.
- Responsible for making sure welding crew follow written welding procedures.
- Perform weld layout and fit-up according to vessel specifications for layout of intermittent weld sequence for each vessel project.
- Understands and effectively communicates the results of quality assurance and non-destructive testing procedures.
- Responsible for making sure welders pass NDT procedures such as VT, PT, RT, etc.
- Responsible for training new hires.
Requirements:
- A minimum of three years’ experience working as a Welding Lead/Supervisor, with shipyard experience. Must demonstrate an adept ability to effectively lead the work of others.
- Effectively communicate information and ideas in English both verbally and in writing without assistance or translation.
- Bi-Lingual in Spanish - a plus.
- Understands how to produce high quality welds using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW and Sub Arc welding processes.
- Able to pass (2G, 3G & 4G) weld qualification test for Gas metal arc welding - pulse (GMAW-P) for steel and aluminum and pass X-ray test.
- Relevant welding certifications and qualifications are preferred.
