Job Overview:
As we enter our busy season, our Traffic Management company is looking to hire seasonal part-time flaggers available to work up to 35 hours a week from now through end of September, with the potential for permanent full-time work at the completion of the season. As a Traffic Controller, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of traffic flow at construction sites and roadwork zones. Your primary responsibility will be to direct vehicles and pedestrians, following established traffic control plans and procedures.
The ideal candidate for this position must have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively as part of an active roadway utility construction site work team as a traffic control flagger. Knowledge of New York State traffic regulations is preferred. Flagger certification from a recognized training program such as American Safety Services Association, National Safety Council or a recognized construction industry association is preferred but not required.
Duties
- Direct traffic using hand signals or flags to ensure the safe passage of vehicles and pedestrians
- Communicate with construction crews and drivers to coordinate traffic flow
- Communicate with other flaggers using hand-held radios to direct two-way traffic onto a single lane
-Setting up barricades and traffic cones along construction sites to cordon off certain areas
-Removing all signs, barricades, and traffic cones upon completion of construction work
-Appropriately positioning warning and detour signs around construction sites
- Monitor traffic conditions and adjust traffic control measures as needed
- Provide clear instructions to drivers and pedestrians regarding detours or alternate routes
- Report any incidents or safety hazards to supervisors or appropriate authorities
Requirements
-Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
-Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time (8 hours per day), lift 50 -60 pounds, and work in all types of seasonal weather and temperature conditions
-Availability on occasion for off-shift and weekend work
-Proactive attitude, work ethic, and constant focus on good customer service every day
-Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening (excluding THC)
