Location: Taconic Biosciences is seeking a Director of Marketing Communications to join our dedicated marketing team in this remote position. This position works primarily remote (90%) with monthly travel to US sites. Qualified candidates will reside within a 3-hour drive to the Germantown, NY or Rensselaer, NY sites. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The Pay Range: $140,000 - $160,000 annual. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors. These factors include, but are not limited to, geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions, with this the upper end of the range is not always likely to be offered.

The Role:
The Director of Marketing Communications is the primary steward in driving Taconic brand equity and creating awareness of current and new products and services. This individual will collaborate with product management to develop and implement integrated marketing plans that drive Taconic’s revenue plan.  They will lead Taconic’s marketing communications department to deliver effective and timely programs that result in increasing demand across all targeted segments. The primary focus is on exceeding the revenue growth and profitability targets through the generation of additional business and furthering the development of existing relationships with key customers. 

The role serves as a strategic consultant to business leaders, advising on messaging, go-to-market strategy, and new product development.  The director also owns the company’s crisis management plan and engages with HR on employee communications.  Collaborating in a matrix relationship with Business Development, Product Management, Program Management, Veterinary Services, Sales, and other positions with scientific expertise to support market development is critical to success.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with business development, product management, scientific, sales and operations teams to translate Taconic’s mission and strategy into actionable, measurable marketing plans then execute on those plans with a sense of urgency.
  • Own content and creative strategies aligned to corporate growth objectives.
  • Collaborate with business leads to develop winning marketing strategies globally, applying the appropriate marketing mix (product, price, position, placement).
  • Develop a closed loop lead generation to cash measurement system.  Establish baseline performance and improve by at least 25 percent annually.
  • Identify, segment, prioritize and target the customer base in a way that enables Taconic to position effectively.
  • Leverage internal and external market data to anticipate trends or changing market conditions and respond accordingly.
  • Develop and oversee a high-performance, accountable, and innovative marketing team capable of carrying out industry leading marketing strategies for company growth.
  • Generate demand by developing and executing short- and long-term marketing plans through the successful identification of strategic initiatives that ensure profitable growth.
  • Own company crisis communications plan and PR strategy.
  • Manage relationships and budgets with advertising agencies and other relevant third-party resources. 
  • Establish and monitor effectiveness metrics for all marketing campaigns, providing leading indicators as to Taconic’s success in the market (e.g. market share, share growth, customer acquisition rates, share of customer spend, etc.).
  • Manage marketing budgets, control costs, and provide accurate financial analysis to support marketing programs.
  • Evaluate customer reactions to marketing messages and product introductions, using A/B testing to rapidly adjust tactics. 
  • Support the sales efforts through education of customers and salespeople. Provide tools to assist in making a sale to each targeted segment.
Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree or technical/managerial experience at an equivalent level.
  • 10 years of relevant experience and/or training.
    • Life sciences or highly technical product/service marketing experience.
    • Experience working internationally.
    • Driving integrated communications plans including digital, traditional, PR and promotions.
    • Copy writing and verbal communication skills, including ability to teach non-marketing teammates.
  • Ability to understand complex scientific information and translate into customer benefits.
  • Experience in the management of a professional staff and senior level decision making.
  • Experience in developing, interpreting, or changing organizational policies or procedures.
  • Ability to write executive summaries, speeches, and articles.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to internal and external senior management.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to listen empathetically, understand information presented by people with different communication styles and different points of view, and resolve disputes.
Travel:
  • Regular travel is required, generally no more than 1 trip per month.
