Summary
Provides maintenance, repair, preventive and installation services for biomedical equipment. May provide technical support during highly instrumented medical procedures, providing consultation, instruction and/or technical direction for medical, nursing and other paramedical staff in the safe use of biomedical equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Repairs, tests, calibrates, and inspects new, existing or repaired biomedical equipment as required by relevant Standards and in conformance with regulatory requirements.
Maintains and updates inventory of the facility's biomedical equipment; maintains an inventory of replacement parts and standby equipment to minimize disruption of patient care, under direction of supervisor.
Performs scheduled inspections and tests necessary to maintain conformance to required standards and regulatory requirements. Assists in preparing related documentation; may participate in investigation of incidents involving biomedical equipment.
Provides support to ensure that clinical equipment meets safety requirements and safety checks loaner equipment prior to use in the District facilities.
Assists in training personnel on safe use and care of equipment.
Provides emergency service for biomedical equipment including possible night and weekend work.
May be responsible for reviewing work performed by outside service vendors.

Supervisory Responsibilities
No supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); OR EQUIVALENT Technical Trade School related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Completion of an Associate’s Degree Program in biomedical equipment technology or equivalent.
Licenses, Certifications
Required: Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician(CBET) (administered by the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (AAMI affiliated) or equivalent.
Other Experience/Qualifications
Preferred 3-5 years’ experience in Healthcare Facility.
Preferred knowledge of HFAP and/or CA State biomedical equipment requirements
