Summary
The Store Supervisor of the Hospice Gift and Thrift supports the Store Manager to assure that the store is run efficiently and profitably. This position is responsible for daily operations of the store and assists the Manager in coordination of volunteers and is responsible for processing donations, maintaining quality of merchandise, and assuring appropriate handling of store revenues. The Store Supervisor prepares financial reports and tracks expenses and revenues. The Store Supervisor assures that the store is properly maintained and staffed and is innovative in developing ways to attract customers and to recruit, retain and recognize both staff and volunteers. The Store Supervisor assures that store business is conducted in an ethical manner consistent with the values of Tahoe Forest Hospice and the Tahoe Forest Hospital District.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works as an effective member of the Thrift Store team, develops and maintains effective working relationships with store Manager, volunteers, and other Tahoe Forest Hospice staff.
  • Complies with policies and procedures of Hospice Gift and Thrift, the Gift Tree and Tahoe Forest Hospital District.
  • Assists store Manager in development of policies and procedures.
  • Oversees daily operations of Thrift Store and Gift Tree, rotating between stores and running the cash registers as necessary.
  • Supports the mission of the Tahoe Forest Hospice in interactions with volunteers and customers.
  • Actively participates in ongoing information gathering regarding current retail values and pricing.
  • Develops and implements strategies to assure inventory is attractively displayed and rapidly sold.
  • Collaborates with associates to oversee processing of donations, reviewing pricing and processing decisions as needed to encourage better more consistent product processing.
  • Develops criteria for screening donations, handling valuable items, pricing structures, and the disposal of unsuitable items, then trains associates on this criteria.
  • Develops criteria for handling off season product, reviewing and training associates on this criteria.
  • Monitors theft control and store security in all locations.
  • Assures that safety and hazardous materials standards are maintained in and around store.
  • Notifies store Manager of any building maintenance, utilities or housekeeping issues.
  • Takes care of store premises and equipment.
  • Assures that the store is maintained and clean in an orderly manner.
  • Helps keep processing area orderly and secure.
  • Tracks and orders supplies as needed for daily store operations.
  • Demonstrates that customer service is a priority for everyone working in the store.
  • Develops and maintains a good rapport with customers and volunteers.
  • Displays appropriate telephone courtesy, assuring that store phones are answered in a timely, professional manner.
  • Handles difficult calls as necessary.
  • Works assigned schedule including weekends as required; will work extra time to cover for vacations or sick calls.
  • Helps manager as needed with the creation of the stores schedules.
  • Assists store manager to develop, organize and conduct promotional strategies to help move merchandise and raise community awareness among potential donors, volunteers and customers.
  • Coordinates advertising for the store in collaboration with the store Manager and Marketing Department.
  • Responsibly and competently tracks daily receipts and handles cash and monies.
  • Assures that routine expenditures remain within the approved budget and obtains approval from Manager for any expenditures beyond approved budget.
  • Assists store Manager in assuring that financial aspects of store operations are appropriately conducted.
  • Completes monthly summary reports regarding daily sales, meeting the deadline set by accounting.
  • Supervises Thrift Store staff and Gift Tree staff with daily assignments.
  • Assists manager with buying and subsequently tracking the purchases for the Gift Tree.
  • Assists manager with yearly inventory of Gift Tree.
  • Assists Manager with interviews, supervises, trains, informally disciplines, councils, and schedules all paid staff working in the store.
  • Collaborates with store manager regarding hire/fire and disciplinary actions.
  • Supervises Thrift Store volunteers with daily assignments. Assists manager with recruitment, orientation, scheduling, coordination of work assignments, counseling regarding issues related to their work as volunteers.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; administering scheduling systems; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; enforcing policies and procedures.

Minimum Education/Experience
Associate's Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 1-2 years relevant experience

Required Licenses/Certifications 
Valid Driver's License in good standing - Upon hire
