Shift / Hours: Full Time (40 hours per week) – Monday through Friday – 8:00 a.m. - 4:30p.m. Before hours/ After hours/ Weekends likely – Overtime –Variable shift
On Call - May be called back during emergency situations
Position Summary
The TKPOA AIS Technician is responsible for assisting the AIS Management Coordinator with day to day activities that support the overall AIS Program goals. This will include assisting and conducting field based projects, collecting field data, maintaining accurate databases, and participating in a proactive information campaign to better inform homeowners and visitors about AIS issues within the Keys Waterways, in accordance with Federal / State Permits, Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR), TKPOA’s Integrated Management Plan (IMP) and Non-Point Source Water Quality Plan (NPS).
Essential Duties
- Complete duties and support the TKPOA AIS Program as required in accordance with the TKPOA IMP and NPS Plans
- Conduct the pre-sampling calibration of all equipment
- Conduct project-specific Water Quality Sampling and Monitoring
- Assist with annual macrophyte (plant) and sediment surveys
- Conduct hydroacoustic scans
- Assist with contractors and consultants in field monitoring and sampling
- Field data management/ data entry and analysis
- Project research
- Assist with all annual report writing
- Manage small crews to perform Water Quality AIS Program Projects
- As needed, attend State, Regional and Local Regulatory meetings
Job Requirements
- Need to have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a pre-screening drug test
- Expected to work in all types of weather conditions for extended amounts of time
- Required to work for long periods of time unsupervised
- Must be able to work for the entire specified season without taking any significant time off.
- Must have the ability to swim 50m (150 ft) in open water without a flotation device
- All employees are required to follow all boating regulations in accordance with USCG Boating Safety Guide and TKPOA Watercraft Policy
Qualification / Educational Requirements
- AA Degree in Life Sciences, Environmental Science, Physical Science, or Natural Resource Management
- Experience in Water Quality sampling and monitoring
- Ability to identify Lake Tahoe’s Native and Invasive Aquatic Plants
- Experience with Map and Global Positioning System (GPS)
- Experience with data management in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Experience and ability to speak to the public in a presentation setting
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Environmental Science, Physical Science, or Natural Resource Management
- GIS Software and Google Earth Mapping
- Small craft boating experience (i.e. operating, launch and recovery, maintenance)
- Mechanical experience on outboard engines
- Experience with the use of hand tools
- Hazmat certification and training
- Public communication skills
