Food Scientist R & D: We are seeking a highly skilled and creative R&D expert to lead all recipe development and research for all our food product development. You will need to understand manufacturing processes with the ability to create and scale industrial applications for our products. This role is key in ensuring the consistent quality, flavor, and appeal of our culinary offerings to inspire consumption and distribution to grocery and retail outlets.
Responsibilities:
Research & Development:
- Support the creation, development, and testing of new recipes aligned with our product offerings and industrial applications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, production, procurement and quality assurance, to understand product requirements and constraints.
- Experience in food manufacturing processes with the ability to create and scale industrial applications for products.
- Fine-tune existing recipes to enhance flavor profiles, nutritional value, production efficiency and cost optimization. Recommend opportunities for improvement and efficiencies, including ingredient sourcing.
- Be on the forefront of emerging trends in ingredients, food technologies, industry advancements and innovations
- Provide culinary expertise through the articulation and integration of trends, technologies, market and customer insights into the development of new products and processes.
- Quality Assurance/Food Safety. Develop scalable processes to ensure consistency and quality as production volumes increase.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of recipe formulations, modifications, and production processes. Generate regular reports on recipe performance, highlighting areas for improvement or innovation.
Cost Management:
- Focus on product costs and efficiencies. Recommend alternative ingredients and sourcing options to improve the costing on finished recipes.
Physical Demands:
- This position requires working on one’s feet for extended periods of time up to 4–6 hours without sitting. It requires frequent crouching, lifting, and carrying heavy boxes. Computer usuage up to 2-3 hours at a time and work with telephones, computers, and other office equipment. Repetitive arm, hand and wrist movements to accommodate knife skills, mixing, measuring.
- We have a dedicated test kitchen. This position requires working in various temperatures including freezers, refrigeration, and hot kitchen areas. Work is also regularly performed near and around sharp and potentially hazardous equipment including knifes and other culinary equipment mixers.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly without undue strain.
Qualifications and Education:
- 5-12 years food science, culinary experience, food research & development.
- Must have a degree in food science, culinary degree or related discipline.
- Food science focused and culintary preparation techniques.
- Deep expertise in culinary, ingredient science, product development.

Location: SODO area in Seattle, WA (NOTE: We are 3 blocks from a light rail station!)
Pay: $70,000 - $90,000 doe
