We currently have an exciting opportunity for Data Engineer II to join our Tailored Technology team.  This individual will assist with assessing the design, development, and maintenance of data infrastructure and pipelines within the organization. These professionals are responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of data systems, as well as optimizing data workflows for performance and usability. They often collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, architect solutions, and implement best practices for data management, processing, and storage. They also play a crucial role in identifying opportunities for automation, streamlining processes, and implementing cutting-edge technologies to drive innovation in data-driven decision-making. Additionally, they may mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members, participate in strategic planning, and contribute to the overall data strategy of the organization.

What You’ll Do 

  • Assess and support efficient and reliable data pipelines to move data across different data systems and enterprise Data Warehouse (Snowflake) Oracle, As400, SqlServer Salesforce and external partner systems through API’s, aws s3 and/or gcp buckets, etc. 
  • Enhance cloud data warehouse, cloud ETL tools and capabilities to engineer solutions and automate large scale data flows from varying systems/sources and lookout to automate and/ or improve existing data processes for high productivity and high efficiency and take Ownership of the solutions & designs built by self and the team.
  • Have keen interest in creating an excellent data operations environment - adhering to SLA’s through automation, raise standards on data quality, be innovative to create custom solutions and frameworks if vital, to meet diverse business needs for data/ reporting.
  • Closely work with data scientists, other internal data groups and business partners to build data solutions which will support a variety of predictive and reporting applications. 
  • Mentor and coach to other junior engineers in the team. Help them resolve technical issues, provide inputs & guidance on designs and development.
  • Can quickly adapt or change gears based on varying data/business needs and priorities to meet milestones dates to deliver projects or on production issues. 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in a data organization, with a preference for experience in the retail sector, dealing with large and complex data sources.
  • Proficient in software engineering best practices throughout the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Responsible for supporting the architecting, designing, and enhancing all development aspects of data warehousing (ETL) processes, encompassing cloud-based sources and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
  • Devises solutions and strategies to advance and optimize current ETL processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and scalability as data volumes increase.
  • Proficient in engineering, programming, and automating data flows, mappings, and streaming data pipelines.
  • Strong experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), database languages (SQL), and scripting languages (primarily Python, PySpark, and Bash, with familiarity in others being advantageous) for automation.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing development environments, data modeling, ETL-ELT pipelines (on cloud or on-premise), and integrating with APIs, SAS ETL tools (e.g., Fivetran, Stitch, etc.).
  • Proficient problem-solving skills, capable of independently or collaboratively addressing complex production issues.
  • Knowledgeable of production deployment Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) orchestration and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Kubernetes, Jenkins) and GitHub.
  • Experience in Snowflake SQL and writing sophisticated queries on relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle, MySQL, etc.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python or Java, with hands-on experience.
  • Provides support to data analysts and data scientists in query optimization, performance tuning, and data processing.
  • Identifies opportunities for data improvements and presents recommendations to management.
  • Experience with automation and scheduling tools such as Automic UC4, Airflow is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence reporting tools like Tableau or MicroStrategy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, enabling effective interface with individuals at various levels, internally and externally.

This salary range is specific to Colorado, New York, California, and Washington. The starting salary for this position is $106,800 – $142,300 and may increase to $160,000 for position depending on merit, length of service with the Company, and other factors. We take into consideration an individual’s skills, background, and experience in determining final salary. Base pay information is based on market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.

Work Environment, Physical & Mental Demands 

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach daily
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Must utilize visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment
  • Hours regularly 40 hours per week, as work dictates, Hybrid from our Corporate office location in Dublin, CA.
