Job Description:
- This position is embedded within the Histopathology Core Section of the *** Research Pathology Department and is focused on the development and application of tissue-based procedures. The successful candidate will provide scientific and technical expertise for tissue-based histopathology assays to support research scientists and pathologists who Client and develop drugs for the treatment of cancer, autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases, ocular and neurological diseases. The Histopathology Core Section at *** is a state-of-the-art lab equipped with Client technologies and automated platforms, and develops assays primarily for discovery research using both standard and internally developed methodologies.
Job Summary:
- The main duties of this lab-based, onsite position include planning and performing basic histology techniques inclusive of histologic slide generation for diagnostic/research purposes and performing special tissue staining for projects within *** Research and Early Development. Candidates should enjoy associated challenges and work across functional groups. Other job-relevant tasks include data acquisition, recording, compilation, interpretation, photographic documentation, presentations, and contributions to publications.
Primary Duties:
- Prepares microscopic slides on human/animal tissue for research/diagnostic purposes, which include: specimen accessioning, trimming fixed tissues, tissue processing, embedding paraffin blocks, microtomy (paraffin sectioning), cryotomy (frozen sectioning), H&E staining and special staining.
- Microscopically identifying tissues or areas of interest within specific tissues before sending slides for evaluation, ensuring that the requested tissues or areas have been captured
- Performs histochemical and enzyme histochemical stains with appropriate controls on a variety of tissues to assist in diagnosis
- Create working documents for new technical procedures as needed
- Maintains laboratory, equipment, and accurate records of quality assurance control
- Prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffin, according to proper specifications
- Setting up all equipment, instrumentation, and supplies in such a way as to ensure efficient laboratory workflow
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least two to three years of experience working in a histology lab, especially with paraffin sectioning
- Other histological skills such as grossing, tissue processing, embedding, and staining are required.
- Willingness to work with fixed and frozen veterinary tissues
- HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification is preferred
- Must demonstrate a record of relevant professional experience
- Excellent multitasking, organization, record-keeping, and problem-solving with good time-management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team of diverse expertise
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Must be able to lift at least 10 lb

Pay: $41.38 - $55.17 per hour
