Job Title:  Public Health Program Specialist
Exemption:  Hourly
Classification:  Full Time
Work Hours:  Monday – Friday and 8 am – 5 pm

We are looking for an open-minded team player who work well with others to accomplish goals and fulfill our mission of promoting health and safety through prevention, collaboration, education, innovation and response. 
This position will work as a maternal mortality prevention specialist. As a part of their role, they will conduct informant interviews. They will work in close collaboration with the team to identify the loved ones of individuals who have died, determine their openness to an interview, and conduct interviews.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Follow up via phone with individuals contacted by letter to request an interview
  • Counsel potential interview participants on the purpose of the interview and provide informed consent
  • Schedule and conduct interviews in a confidential setting
  • Provide information on bereavement resources and disease registries as appropriate
  • Transcribe notes and quotations from interviews for inclusion in case summaries reviewed by board members
  • Participate in ongoing training opportunities and maintain certification in HIPAA compliance
  • Participate in ongoing efforts such as identification of resources for loved ones and revisions as needed to the informant interview guide
  • Assist in writing program reports
  • Serve as a subject matter expert at internal and external stakeholder meetings

Required Skills and Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years or more years of professional experience in public health, mental health, education, social services, public or business administration, health care, or a closely related field. (Relevant experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for any deficiencies in the required education.)
  • This position requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate is someone who can build impactful partnerships and has excellent networking and communication skills. Candidates will also have innovative problem-solving and advanced critical and analytical thinking skills.
Experience using technology and a variety of computer programs (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, video-conferencing, and online survey platforms) for coordinating activities and project reporting.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  • Has a bachelor's or master's in counseling, social work, psychology, nursing, or public health.
  • Experience in qualitative interviewing techniques, empathetic communication, and bereavement counseling
  • Has a deep commitment to health equity and understands the drivers of inequity
  • Has a deep working knowledge of and/or lived experience with MO communities of color
  • Possesses strong communication and organization skills
