Skill Requirements:
The job requires a high school diploma or GED, proficiency in terminating connectors for SMF and MMF systems, testing and troubleshooting experience.
3-5 years of experience in fiber.
Industry certifications, data center installation, mechanical and fusion splice experience, and OSP/confined space entry experience.
Trade tools required include screwdrivers, torpedo levels, tape measures, pliers, and punch tools.
Responsibilities: Cabling & Termination
The Fiber Technician installs racks, patch panels, fiber optics, and hardware, performs testing, installs connectors, terminates jumper cords, and terminates outside plant fibers. They also install fan out kits and buffer tubes. They calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards, complete all paperwork accurately and on time, and complete any other assigned duties.
Additional responsibilities: Able to provide onsite support after business hours as part of on-call schedule. Able to travel to various sites as needed.
The Fiber Technician will test, troubleshoot, and perform mechanical and fusion splicing with various types of fiber cables, as well as building entrance, maintenance space, and direct buried splices.
