The Manager of EHS Operations plays a significant role in the smooth operation and overall safety of our staff and EH&S programs including manufacturing, laboratory and offices. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the implementation of all Environmental, Health and Safety policies, procedures and programs that will assure our compliance with all relevant Regulatory Agencies.
The position requires an organized individual with strong attention to detail and a solid understanding of the activities, processes, and policies necessary for efficient and compliant operations.
EHS Responsibilities
- Manage Environmental Health and Safety activities and Environmental Compliance for all Environmental Health & Safety Programs.
- Actively ensure Company Compliance with all permits, licensure, GLP, cGMP, Federal, State, local, OSHA, MA DEP, MWRA, and other safety regulations.
- Updates site management on new or changed regulations in a timely manner. Makes recommendations to site management on feasible solutions and alternatives for compliance with these regulations.
- Conducts risk assessments as required to determine requirements for area and job specific processes and tasks including fall, personal protective equipment, respiratory, etc.
- Industrial Hygiene programs such as: animal allergens, OSHA chemical standards, air quality measurements, or other hygiene requirements as needed.
- Maintain and update the EHS Dashboard, a comprehensive site-wide resource for all employees to access EHS information.
- Act as Biosafety Officer for Client Lexington.
- Create, drive, support and foster a safety environment that matches Company philosophy.
- Revise trainings, manuals and policies to be more interactive and current to meet state, federal and local requirements.
- Develops and conducts employee health and safety training programs. Develops and implements refresher training for various health and safety topics as required by the regulations.
- Ensure our internal training platform is updated with current documents, records. Also assigning the required trainings to new hires as well as refresher trainings.
- Manage the chemical inventory system and perform annual audit.
- Initiates and procures all required Environmental, Health and Safety Permits and licenses.
- Maintains OSHA 300 log.
- Oversees all ergonomic related issues and makes recommendations as appropriate.
- Conduct self-audits of the EHS program.
- Manage PPE vendors/orders, such as lab coats and first aid kits.
- Conduct periodic site audits of office area, research and QC lab areas and facilities areas.
- Manages the Hazardous waste program, MWRA wastewater program, Ergonomic Program, authors and updates all needed EH&S policies including: Hazardous Communication Standard, Bio Safety / Blood Borne Pathogens Program, Radiation Safety and Emergency Response Plan.
- Provides companywide training on all EH&S policies.
- Chairs the General Safety Committee and the Institutional Biosafety Committee.
- Performs incident investigations and implements corrective action plans.
- Additional duties may include, maintaining controlled substance program, evaluate/maintain inventory of all safety equipment, coordinate fire drills, onboarding and offboarding of lab employees, Tier II reporting, and/or work with Facilities on inspections or audits.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of US EHS regulations and other applicable regulations.
- Knowledge of laboratory and hazardous waste regulations to include hazardous chemical/biohazard storage and disposal regulations.
- Knowledge of ergonomics and how to conduct evaluations.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene, including air monitoring strategies.
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to provide effective training.
- Good problem-solving skills.
Required Qualifications:
- 5-7 years professional Health & Safety experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry.
- BS/BA in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Life or Physical Sciences, or other related fields.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of state and federal health & safety regulations.
- Experience managing safety in a multi-state environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
