Job Overview:
The AVP Engineer Middleware will be responsible for managing the Confluent Cloud and Kafka platforms for Non-Prod and Prod systems. You will help to increase automation, ensure systems are reliable, scalable, and proactively resolve issues. You will take an engineering approach to infrastructure and operations, solving business problems with software and automation, take ownership of the hosted infrastructure and ensuring that it meets the needs of the product with a particular focus on data security and resilience.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Confluent Cloud and Kafka team member to design / install / deploy / administer the platform.
- Provide 24x7 support when on call.
- Partner with architecture team to drive platform alignment to modern architecture practices.
- Patch, create Roadmaps, and assist junior engineers
- Build automation for install and platform management activities, such as restarts, patching, and other scenarios.

Requirements:
Bachelor s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
- 3 years of experience with Installation, configuration and administration of Confluent Cloud or Kafka
- 3 years of experience with UNIX and LINUX operating systems, storage environments, file systems, and network protocols.
- 3 years of strong understanding of distributed systems using messaging platform
- 2 years of creating great documentation that enables other team members to learn and execute platform engineering and management activities.
Preferences:
- Experience with application profiling using tools such as Dynatrace, VisualVM or Jprofiler.
- Experience with performance tuning for JVMs, web containers, DB connection pools, etc.
- Possess a thorough understanding of modern work practices such as DevSecOps, Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), Agile project Delivery, Release Engineering.

Kafka Admin - must understand 7 components - both on prem and some cloud
(zookeeper, brokers, schema, Ksql, connect, control system
Agile environment
.NET apps
Understand devops and CI/CD pipelines -- ansible for automation - octopus and shell scripting
Some application dev experience - not as important -- python or java (will be guiding app teams on how to use Kafka)
Troubleshooting skills
Improve scripting
Auto-cluster linking
