Primary purpose:

To supervise the activities and work of procurement personnel while coordinating all facets of purchasing materials and equipment and securing the best value for the organization. The Procurement Supervisor, Materials will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and vendors to develop procurement solutions that meet all requirements and strike a balance between cost effectiveness, delivery lead times, and high-quality standards. The Procurement Supervisor, Materials will also ensure that personnel adhere to the established Procurement Policies and Procedures to ensure an efficient, professional, and compliant operation that is consistent with corporate and regulatory requirements.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and leadership to the Procurement Team, ensuring training and sharing best strategies for responsible and efficient procurement activities.
  • Identify and implement procurement related opportunities for cost savings/efficiency and develop/prioritize procurement initiatives.
  • Maintain knowledge of market conditions that may impact the company and keep abreast of trends and the potential impacts on growth initiatives. 
  • Communicate regularly with Management on Departmental projects, goals, and objectives.
  • Monitor performance requirements and goals, leading teams to ensure expectations and compliance guidelines are met. 
  • Foster a positive open work environment, systems approaches, and disciplined execution of all assigned tasks.
  • Manage personnel related matters, including providing performance-based feedback, providing support and work assignments and completing administrative tasks as needed.
  • Work closely with suppliers to promote strong business relationships and partnerships that optimize their performance for Tallgrass.
  • Ensure standard terms and conditions and contract templates are maintained and utilized, and that contract management processes include legal, risk and vendor assessments.
  • Lead complex negotiations or provide guidance and assistance with agreement and supplier relationships to assure the company’s best interests are achieved.
  • Promote and facilitate Procurement participation in project status meetings with Project Management, Engineering, and Operations.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit in maintaining compliance with Tallgrass policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Track and report key functional metrics for cost analysis, process review and benchmarking.
  • Develop and maintain department information management processes and sites (SharePoint), ensuring ongoing improvement through evaluation and systematic review of current processes.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Partner with Team members, other Departments and organizations to achieve overall company objectives.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely (verbal and written) in person, by telephone, and in email and listen carefully
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance. 
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as identified and defined.


Minimum requirements:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum 5 years direct work experience in Procurement may be considered as a substitute for a degree.

 

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of five (5) years active and direct work experience in Procurement. 
  • Solid knowledge of financial terms and principles.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft applications (including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) for the purpose of word processing, spreadsheets and information retrieval.
  • Strong reading, listening and analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues/problems.
  • Ability to successfully organize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, frequently under strict deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze events at the transaction level, and apply sound and consistent resolutions to such events.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Past experience working on projects from a procurement, project controls, or project management perspective preferred

 

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Required to carry a mobile phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • Occasional overnight travel and weekend travel may be required.
  • May be required to work nights and weekends, or non-traditional work hours as needed.
  • Successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including a credit report, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position: 

  • One or more or the following Certifications preferred: C.P.M.; C.P.C.M.; C.S.C.P.; C.P.S.M.; C.P.P.
  • Experience with Oracle ERP Cloud software.
