Location Note: REMOTE
This is a remote position (even after COVID-19). Candidates must be located in the DC Metro Area for occasional on-site meetings.
Remote work environment should be conducive to making phone calls, attending teleconferences, and communicating with external team members as part of the everyday job duties. 

We are hiring a Systems Engineer to work in support of the Department of Veteran Affairs’ effort to modernize legacy financial systems. Qualified candidates will have prior experience supporting a federal government enterprise in a cloud environment. Prior experience with interfaces, data cleansing and/or data conversion development is preferred.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Working with analysts and users to define existing or new interface and/or data cleanse and conversion requirements
  • Collaborating with functional team and designing, constructing, and maintaining software programs in one or more of the following areas:
    • Web service interfaces using Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and Red Hat Fuse technologies;
    • Data cleanse scripts or programs to identify and manage data consistency and quality issues in legacy systems via SQL, excel, or other data comparison or analysis tool; or
    • Data conversion scripts and routines to migrate legacy data to the Oracle-based Momentum ERP application, supporting complex business logic and utilizing database performance optimization techniques
  • Developing technical documents, including software implementation guides and designing documentation including Interface Control Documents (ICD’s)
  • Working with analysts to ensure software components are properly documented for system users
  • Performing unit testing and providing support to functional analysts during system testing
  • Managing the installation of software components in the acceptance testing and production environments
  • Implementing quality assurance standards and processes for validation and verification efforts
  • Implementing software development best practices
  • Seeking out and implementing process improvement initiatives

Requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Current Public Trust or ability to obtain Public Trust
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 6 years of systems engineering experience
  • Understanding of relational concepts and proficiency with coding and tuning SQL in an Oracle or SQL Server database context
  • Experience with DevOps or DevSecOps practices and automated testing tools
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team to solve problems
  • Ability to learn quickly and put new skills to use
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities while meeting deadlines, with flexibility to put in the hours needed to meet tight deadlines

Desired experience includes:

  • Knowledge of financial/acquisitions systems implementations is preferred
  • Experience implementing Agile methodologies is preferred
  • Technical experience working Momentum Financials and the Momentum database is preferred
  • Understanding of Momentum tables and relationships and the technical components used to convert from legacy systems to Momentum, specifically approaches to data mapping, PL/SQL, Momentum FormImport and GSOffline processes is preferred
  • Experience working with Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and Red Hat Fuse is preferred
  • Experience implementing system integrations within an Enterprise Service Bus, including management of web-service and file-based interactions with legacy systems is preferred
  • Web Services development experience using SOAP, XML, WSDL, WS-Security, and/or JSON is preferred
  • Experience developing and deploying services in Red Hat OpenShift or other container platforms is preferred
  • Development experience with Java, Python, or other modern programming language is preferred
  • Expertise in developing interfaces and/or executing large-scale data conversions is preferred
  • Strong understanding of data reconciliation or migration across a variety of data platforms, formats and technologies is preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft or Azure Data services, such as Power BI, Azure SQL, SSAS, Synapse, or Azure Data Factory is preferred
  • Experience with Data Analytics or Data Cleansing tools and services is preferred
  • SharePoint development experience is preferred
