Location Note: REMOTE
This is a remote position (even after COVID-19). Candidates must be located in the DC Metro Area for occasional on-site meetings.
Remote work environment should be conducive to making phone calls, attending teleconferences, and communicating with external team members as part of the everyday job duties. 

We are recruiting for a Senior Systems Engineer to provide Functional SME support for the Department of Veteran Affairs’ effort to modernize legacy financial systems. Qualified candidates will have prior experience supporting a federal government enterprise in a cloud environment. Prior experience with interfaces, data cleansing and/or data conversion development is preferred.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Eliciting requirements from end-users for interface, data conversion, and/or data cleanse activities
  • Conducting design reviews, establishing acceptance criteria, understanding business processes, and creating process maps as required
  • Providing functional support and assisting with documenting requirements, detailed design specifications and/or data conversion and cleanse plans, business processes, and user stories based on requirements
  • Analyzing legacy and target system data and conduct reconciliation activities based on findings
  • Coordinating across multiple development efforts to ensure system interfaces and/or data conversion and cleanse decisions are consistent with requirements/expectations/regulations
  • Working directly with programmers, database administrators, and other technical specialists
  • Collaborating with other analysts to understand the organization’s business processes and legacy system data and processes
  • Developing expertise in the COTS tool, Federal Financial Management business processes, and ERP implementation best practices under the guidance of more senior subject matter experts
  • Conducting functional testing, developing test scenarios and documentation, and performing validation testing for interfaces and/or conversion requirements
  • Monitoring, tracking, and troubleshooting application operation and data,
  • Analyzing incidents and working with the technical team to resolve issues
  • Developing materials and training end users on interface, data conversion, and/or data cleanse requirements
  • Implementing quality assurance standards and processes for validation and verification efforts
  • Implementing software development best practices
  • Seeking out and implementing process improvement initiatives

Requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Current Public Trust or ability to obtain Public Trust
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 12 years of systems engineering experience
  • Strong analytical and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team to solve problems
  • Ability to learn quickly and put new skills to use
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities while meeting deadlines, with flexibility to put in the hours needed to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience with Federal Financial Management and systems is preferred  
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies is preferred
  • Experience working with the Momentum Financials front-end and database is preferred
  • Experience supporting the development of interfaces and/or a large-scale data conversion is preferred
  • Ability to write and execute SQL statements is preferred
