What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underwriter - Risk position at Talus Payments?
Job Summary:
The Underwriter will work the functions of the Underwriting Team pulling underwriting and compliance documentation for UW review. The Underwriter will effectively train and guide the underwriting team members within Talus Pay to serve a dual business purpose of onboarding new merchant accounts to meet the organization’s business growth expectations while ensuring that all merchant accounts meet the guidelines set forth by Talus Pay, its sponsor bank, processing partners, and the card brands. This position requires strict attention to detail within the merchant applications while displaying outstanding customer service when interacting with merchants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Underwriting Team, which includes but is not limited to:
- Investigating and analyzing new merchant applications submitted by partners and sales team, while adhering to the companies SLA by ensuring all applications submitted by 2PM are decisioned same day
- Pull underwriting and compliance documentation
- Able to read and understand credit reports
- Review a company's financial records and assessing the risk
- Oversight of Periodic Review process in conjunction with our risk team to ensure merchants hitting certain annual volume are reviewed on a quarterly or annual basis
- Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly underwriting metrics as needed
- Able to thoroughly review UW documents and identify potential risk
- Assesses and apply risk parameters according to business needs
- Underwrite a minimum of 10 accounts per day, with the possibility of more as dictated by staffing levels and time of month
- Able to work in a team environment
- Demonstrates the ability to solve critical business issues using all resources, in a faced pace atmosphere
- Assist with projects, delegated tasks, and committees as needed
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment as well as be able to work independently in a professional manner
- Maintain detailed and accurate records
- Communicate with internal/external customers and across departments
- Demonstrate sound financial decision-making capabilities
Preferred Education & Experience:
- At least 1-year prior credit card acquiring/processing experience (required)
- Experience with working as an ISO office (preferred)
- Knowledge with “Access One” system (preferred)
- Knowledge with “Row Nets” First Data/Fiserv Platform (preferred)

Full-Time position Monday – Friday 9:00am – 6:00 pm
