Are you able to inspire reporters and help them make their work better? The Tampa Bay Times is looking for a local news leader to oversee a team of reporters at one of the best local news organizations in the country. This team on the Metro staff will focus on key areas of interest, including our growing communities of color. The editor we seek should be creative and collaborative. We value precision, news instincts, strong communication and a demonstrated track record of having elevated the journalism of those around you.
Responsibilities
Lead a team of metro reporters across broad local news topics.
Work with reporters to brainstorm, develop and produce lively and important coverage from across the Tampa Bay region, as well as finding ways to localize big stories from Florida, the U.S. and the world.
Edit stories with clarity and speed.
Emphasize distinctive enterprise and watchdog reporting.
Make story decisions using a combination of instincts and analytics
Encourage and exemplify a culture of innovation in storytelling.
Build partnerships with university journalism schools and media to broaden our local news coverage.
Requirements
Ten years of journalism experience, particularly focused on news.
Editing experience a plus but not required. If you have not been in a formal editing role, explain how else you've led in the newsrooms you have been a part of.
Fluency in Spanish a big plus.
Ability to juggle multiple stories and assignments and identify and delegate tasks effectively.
Knowledge of analytics platforms.
Familiarity with Slack, Outlook and using a website CMS.
Ability to work occasional weekends.
