Job Summary
Job Summary: Job incumbent assists individuals registered at Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center to obtain funding for health care from sources other than the Indian Health Service (IHS).

Representative Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Alternate Resource Manager, job incumbent will:
1. Screen patients to determine eligibility for other payment sources such as Medicaid, Medicare, SSI, and VA. Documents and verifies all information received.
2. Explain to patients, providers and others CHS policies and procedures as it relates to seeking alternate sources of funding.
3. Copy Insurance cards and enter into RPMS.
4. Assist patients complete various applications for programs that will help pay for health care. File application with appropriate third party resource.
5. Provide follow-up for pending cases through phone calls and letters. Track all applications through the approval process.
6. Inform Purchased Referred Care regarding services paid for by CHS when alternate funding has been established.
7. Contact various state and federal agencies, verifying if a patient is eligible for another funding source. Phone calls and faxes will be made to: the Division of Public Assistance, Social Security Administration, Veterans Affairs, Disability Determination Unit, and other agencies. Phone calls are made to medical business offices and to third party payers. Contacts patients, via phone or letter, asking them to comply with requests from third party payers.
8. Work closely with CAIHC medical staff, advising them of potentially high cost cases. Works closely with social services staff at FMH to assure IHS clients' financial needs are being met when patients are inpatient. Works closely with local Social Security office regarding Medicare eligibility.
9. Work with Health Aides/TWDS by offering assistance or advice on how to work within the Alaska Medicaid guidelines for health care and related travel.
10. Keep tracking data and submit to Alternate Resource Manager on a weekly basis.
11. Travel monthly with Chief Andrew Isaac Health care providers.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or GED equivalent required. College coursework preferred.
2. Two years' experience working with health care financing i.e. health insurance companies, Medicaid, Medicare, and other health care payers.
3. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
4. Demonstrated strong positive verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to operate contemporary office equipment and software.
6. Experience in Microsoft word and Excel required.
