Job Summary



Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Clinical Services Environmental Services Manager, job incumbent will provide supervision and programing of housekeeping duties at the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center and other buildings as needed.

Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.


Essential Functions

Representative Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Clinical Services Environmental Services Manager, job incumbent will be assigned from the following representative duties:

1. Supervises the activities of all Environmental Technician II (Lead) and Environmental Technician I positions in compliance with the guidelines and policies provided by the Clinical Services Environmental Services Manager, Tanana Chiefs Conference, and using independent judgment in instances not covered by the guidelines and policies.

2. Develops an effective team of environmental personnel by instructing all employees in the proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance, evaluating individual performances to meet established standards, providing required performance evaluations on environmental personnel and making recommendations regarding the retention of new employees.

3. Must stay current and knowledgeable on proper disinfection practices and infection control requirements by following standards and techniques for infection reduction.

4. Must be able to plan and perform daily and major cleaning operations, supervising assigned work projects, and coordinate major cleaning projects with the Clinical Services Environmental Services Manager.

5. Ensures that the quality of environmental services meets established guidelines by frequently inspecting the work of environmental personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines.

6. Provides on the job training for new employees with regard to every phase of their job, which includes equipment and chemical usage. In addition, provides continuing training using on the job coaching methods for current employees.
7. Supervises and trains Environmental Services staff in general cleaning tasks such as, but not limited to, dusting, wet wiping, glass cleaning, vacuuming, polishing and mopping, waxing and stripping, wiping ceiling vents, high/low dusting of window sills, door panels, and display cases, edge vacuuming and baseboard cleaning, refilling paper and soap dispensers, inside and outside garbage pick-up and disposal, biohazard removal, cleaning and sanitizing of exam rooms, bathroom fixtures, drinking centers, hand washing areas, trash containers and lids, doorknobs, all stainless steel, walls, break room surfaces to include counters, tables, sinks, floors, chairs and all other surfaces prone to harbor communicable diseases.

8. Assigns Environmental Staff to minor plumbing repairs such as unclogging sinks and toilets.

9. Supervises, trains, and assigns staff to deep cleaning of exam rooms and other areas as needed or required.

10. Supervises, trains, and assigns staff to light and heavy extraction carpet cleaning and scrubbing of safety flooring using automated equipment.

11. Supervises employees in basic equipment care, checks for wear and damage on assigned equipment.

12. Maintains a continuous supply of paper and chemical supplies stored in work rooms neat and organized. Orders Environmental supplies directly from vendors. Works with Director to establish and maintain supply contracts.

13. Evaluates new environmental supplies and equipment by conducting testing of such items and recommending the appropriateness of their use.

14. Must be able to work nights, evenings, weekends, overtime and holidays.

15. Schedules work activities and adjusts workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special facilities projects.

16. Provides continuity of environmental services under emergency conditions or unique circumstances by performing environmental duties directly related to the emergency conditions or as the situation dictates.

17. Provides continuity of supervision and leadership by assuming the duties and responsibilities of Environmental Lead positions as required by special circumstances.

18. Follows the rules and intent of the department's regulations and safety guidelines. Ensures staff maintain Environmental work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.

19. Maintain Safety Data Sheet records for cleaning products and chemicals.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or GED;

2. Valid Driver’s License and remain insurable under TCC insurance policy.

3. Four years’ experience in Housekeeping preferred.

4. Experience with floor cleaning maintenance, such as stripping and waxing and heavy extraction carpet cleaning.

5. Medical facility cleaning experience preferred.

6. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Ability to communicate verbally and/or in writing.

2. Ability to follow instructions appropriately and use sound judgment.

3. Ability to train staff on proper cleaning requirements and techniques.

4. Ability to work independently and with others as a team member.

5. Ability to follow verbal and written instruction and work with minimal supervision.

6. Must maintain strict confidentiality.

Supervision:
This position has supervisory responsibilities.

1. Enforces Tanana Chiefs Conference rules and policies regarding employee conduct by advising environmental personnel of the Tanana Chiefs Conference rules and policies on employee conduct, issuing verbal warnings and written reprimands for violations, and recommending progressive disciplinary action to the immediate supervisor as appropriate.

2. Hires qualified employees by initiating and organizing the interview process and making determinations regarding the employment of applicants.

3. Ensures that administrative records and reports regarding environmental personnel are accurate and current by reviewing employee time cards or monthly time sheets and monitoring employee absences.


Supervision



Physical demands: Work requires walking, standing, and lifting for extended periods of time. Occasional contact with cleaning and disinfectant solvents or chemicals are required of this position. Incumbent will be expected to lift and carry supplies, garbage, and other items for short distances. May occasionally have the potential of exposure to blood and body fluids.
