A social services organization in New York City is looking to add a new Outreach Specialist to their growing staff. In this role, the Outreach Specialist will be responsible for delivering outreach and supportive services to veteran families by providing engagement and ongoing support.
About the Opportunity:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Assignment Length: 3-month assignment
- Schedule: Monday to Friday
- Hours: 9-5 (flexible)
Responsibilities: The Outreach Specialist will:
- * Provide outreach through the distribution of materials, informational/educational presentations and marketing to community members and possible participants.
* Address crowds of varying sizes and offer program presentations.
* Deliver flyers and program materials to multiple sites each day.
* Engage with businesses, clergy, human services providers, government agencies to spread the word about SSVF and S:US services.
* Provide resource and referral services to community members and possible participants, particularly for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs services and entitlements, public benefits, and housing resources.
* Interface with representatives from referring agencies and partnering service providers in order to facilitate the delivery of program services and a steady flow of referrals.
* Maintain a strong working relationship with colleagues and program managers.
* Document daily outreach using outreach logs, verifying locations visited each day as directed.
* Conduct pre-screenings of applicants for S:US SSVF services.
* Work independently to conduct in-person outreach and canvassing on a daily basis.
* Document all services in compliance with agency standards.
* Act as a liaison to community-based services and groups including civic, social service, government, businesses, landlords and non-profit organizations.
* Participate in ongoing individual supervision, team meetings, case conferences, division meetings and trainings.
* Participate in S:US Veterans Service Fair(s) and other events.
* Intensive, daily fieldwork is expected across all five-boroughs of New York City.
* Completion of other tasks as assigned by manager.
* Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends to attend events.
* Cultivate positive relationships with relevant funding and monitoring entities, faith-based organizations, social service providers, and other community partners
Qualifications:
- * Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces a plus;
* High School or GED required.
* Must be able to travel across all five boroughs of NYC and conduct fieldwork up to 90% of the time.
* Willingness to travel across various locations daily including homeless shelters and VA locations and to canvass multiple sites daily.
* Ability to work outside of normal business hours a plus, including Veterans Day and occasional nights or weekend hours
* Experience with electronic database systems (such as HMIS) is a plus.
