The Chief Ultrasonographer is responsible for the daily operation of the Ultrasound Lab and performs diagnostic exams as necessary. Is a direct contact for other members of the lab.

Education
Technical or Vocational school plus up to 2 years specialty training

Experience
Five years of related experience. Requires broad knowledge of complex systems and procedures.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Qualifications
  • ARDMS registered.
  • Can communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Minimum 5 years experience as an Ultrasonographer.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain professional relationships, both interdepartmental and intradepartmental.
  • Must be detail oriented and well organized.
  • Must work well as a team member.
  • Prefer previous supervisory experience.
  • Must obtain CPR certification within 30 days from hire.
Requirements:
Area of Responsibilities
  • Direct supervision of all Ultrasound Lab employees.
  • Evaluates job performances.
  • Maintains departmental work schedules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Department Director.
  • Responsible for QA QC programs.
  • Arranges for maintenance and repairs of equipment.
  • Assists other Ultrasonographers in educational needs to help achieve professional goals.
  • Demonstrates competency in patient care according to the age of the patient and population served.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patients' needs.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients (age and diagnosis).
  • Responsible for carrying out directives from the Director Assistant Director.
  • Responsible for daily coordination of patient flow.
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of new developments/procedures in Ultrasound that will help the department be as up-to-date as possible.
  • Works with Director in establishing annual operation and capital budgets.

Compliance Statement
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.

Supervision
  • Assigns tasks to all Ultrasound employees to accomplish daily goals. Responsible for training and minor personnel actions. Completes employee performance reviews.

Definitions
  • Under the direct supervision of the Director of Diagnostic Imaging, the Chief Ultrasonographer is responsible for the daily operation of the Ultrasound Lab and performs diagnostic exams as necessary. Is a direct contact for other members of the lab.

Frequent contacts of a significant nature involving difficult negotiations and technical matters requiring thorough knowledge of organization policies or treatment, plus an ability to understand, communicate with, and to lead, and influence others to obtain willing acceptance, consent, or action. Requires a high degree of diplomacy.

Effect Of Error
Probable errors not easily detected and may adversely affect external as well as internal relationships and may result in major expenditures for equipment, materials, or procedures detrimental to the patient's welfare or the organization's interest. Work is subject to general review only and requires considerable accuracy and responsibility. Continually works with reports, records, plans, and programs of a major functional area of the organization where integrity is required to safeguard the organization's position. Duties may involve the preparation of data on which the administration bases important decisions and are highly confidential.

Supervisory Responsibility
Assists the Director in supervising and directing the work activities of staff in department, functional area or program. Supervises managers and provides overall direction and expectations for the department, functional area, or program. Has human resources responsibilities and authority for staff. This position typically reports to the Director.

Mental Demands
A wide variety of complex, changing problems, most of which cannot be anticipated, and there is little existing precedent. Requires careful analysis for the effect of solution on other activities and overall coordination in the organization. Accuracy is essential and not subject to further check. Work involves high degree of resourcefulness, independent judgment, initiative, and long-range planning to achieve major functional objectives.

Physical Effort
Considerable physical effort - Lifts, carries, or handles medium weight equipment, materials, or supplies most of day. Occasional physical effort with heavy objects (over 60 lbs.). Works in reaching or strained positions frequently.

Working Conditions
Extreme - Constantly involved in exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or some work is performed with exposure to temperature/weather extremes/occupational risk and probability of coming into contact with blood borne pathogens, other potentially infectious diseases, or biomedical/bio-hazardous materials.
