What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Technician position at TASI Group?
Summary and Responsibilities:
A Machine Builder fits and assembles machine components according to engineering drawings, models and schematics.
The Machine Builder also constructs, rebuilds and repairs machines using precision instruments, various hand tools and
power tools. Dynamic Machine Builders work safely at all times and are dedicated to providing our customers with the
highest quality automated solutions possible.
* Must work safely and be able to provide feedback regarding ongoing refinements to our Safety Culture
* Build automated machines and associated sub-systems using engineering drawings, schematics, CAD models and
blueprints including I/O, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical schematics
* Expected to assemble mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
* Aligns components and verifies alignment and tolerances of moving parts such as bowl feeders, machine
indexers, pick and place slides and part nests
* Able to accurately lay out holes and drill, tap, ream, countersink and chamfer edges accordingly
* Working knowledge of various hand tools, power tools and able to use various precision measuring tools such as
scales, micrometers, calipers, indicators and gauges
* Plumb pneumatic circuits and perform low voltage system I/O systems checks.
* Verifies conformance of components to the bill of material (BOM)
* Expected to communicate with Engineering, designers and programmers on machine issues
* Strong understanding of working to a schedule, budget and target-based production
* Ability to hand sketch needed parts or redlines and dimension them to communicate needed changes
* Needs to be organized, work neatly and have a strong grasp of "Clean As You Go" and 5S
* May assist with the install and commission of equipment at customer sites
* May assist with service calls for repairs, maintenance, upgrades, etc. at customer sites
* May work directly with customers during machine acceptance testing
* Expect to work both as a team and independently, depending on the build. Strong self-starting, early
communication of potential issues and teamwork skills are a must
* May communicate with machine designers during conceptualization and development of details
Physical Requirements:
* Work in standing or sitting position continuously
* Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
* Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
* Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
* Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Preferred Experience:
* 2 years machine building experience
* Experience with manufacturing (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.)
* Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
* Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to shift gears quickly and adapt to on-the-fly
customer changes and be able to clearly explain issues
* Ability to use traditional inspection tools for the inspection of parts and assemblies
Nice to Haves:
* Experience building or troubleshooting low voltage electrical systems
* Ability to read and understand PLC, Robot, and similar software programming
* Experience in troubleshooting and refining machine vision, robotics, machine safety, sensors, and measurement
devices.
* Experience with machine safety and OSHA
* Experience providing feedback on processes, procedures, manuals, and training documentation
