Tate & Lyle embarked on a Journey to EHS Excellence (J2EE); a strategy developed for the next years. The Head of EHSQS will play a major role in the building EHSQS excellence and driving understanding and participation across all locations. The role will also lead on all topics related to EHSQS, all major and potential major incident investigation across our business.
Joining our senior leadership team where you will have full autonomy for a broad, multi-disciplined business function. With a passion for People/HOP/continuous improvement, you will be shaping and leading best practice in the transformation of health and safety, environmental, quality, security, regulatory and legislative policies.
The incumbent must have mastery knowledge of EHSQS standards/regulations/compliance needs. A thorough understanding of crisis management, food safety and defence, and all matters related to EHS is an essential requirement.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for the provision and facilitation of the business level EHSQS Strategy for Short/Medium/Long term goals and accreditations
- Drive, define and shape EHSQS Excellence across the organisation
- Be a role model for EHSQS best practices and experiences
- Coach guide and develop the functional professionals to best support the EHSQS programs/model
- Work cross functionally with colleagues within the GO teams to achieve business objectives
- Understands and supports the implementation of ISO standards as part of the Journey to Excellence
- Set and maintain global standards (with support of Subject Matter Experts throughout T&L)
- Mentor and coach global and local functional leaders in EHSQS excellence
- Develops EHS Digital Roadmap to support Journey to EHSQS Excellence, including the generation of a set of pillars and goals
- Communicates, reports and analyses EHS KPI’s and progress on Journey to EHS Excellence to Board, Executive Committee, leaders and employees.
- Establish a communication structure around Tate & Lyle’s Journey to EHSQS Excellence with interested customers.
- Build relationships of trust to allow cultural growth across the region, cultural development, educational knowledge sharing, and empowerment are all key aspects of our Journey…being well versed on the Journey model and developing of programs to benefit this is a key factor across this EHSQS position
Main accountabilities
- Deliver comprehensive reporting to ExCo and Board level members monthly/quarterly
- Have holistic approach to EHSQS leadership, by ensuring trends and advances in the function are reviewed and implemented where appropriate within the business
- Provide structured programs that can be administered across entire business, with impact in key areas to reduce risk across the EHSQS function locally and globally
- Be the key person responsible for major crisis management leadership in the business
- A confident and senior level experienced leader, responsible for enhancing processes, mechanisms and tools which will enable a long-term, positive and sustainable EHSQS culture across a variety of projects and models
- Comply with all federal, provincial, territorial regulatory requirements
- Lead the organisation for EHSQS function whilst building a positive, inclusive, empowering culture throughout each location
- Understand and develop food safety and quality standards to the highest level for the business
- Build holistic impactful programs/models which support the vision and purpose of the organisation, whilst supporting the EHSQS strategic process
- Responsible for leading, motivating and developing the EHSQS team, ensuring high performance and achieving ambitious goals
- Organised and able to prioritise - you'll be the corporate face of EHSQS for the company
- To maintain and continually improve the current ISO accreditations (BSC, 22000, 14001, 45001)
- Lead Continuous Improvement initiative regarding EHS policies and programs
- Manage budgetary responsibilities
Skills and experience required
- Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or related discipline, and/or, Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College / University in Environmental Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Management or related discipline
- 10 or more years of EHS and/or Q management experience, preferably in food manufacturing or chemical/engineering environments
- 10 years leading and designing food safety and quality systems and standards in a similar industry
- 10 years leading, designing, managing and evaluating social sustainable strategies & programs across the EHSQS function
- Experience leading an organization to VPP and/or ISO certification
- Experience in high hazard environments, such as use of explosives
- Five (5) or more years of experience in a corporate or business unit EHS or Q leadership position
- Demonstrated success designing, directing, and managing comprehensive multimedia Environmental processes and programs
- Demonstrated success in developing and utilising leading and lagging KPIs resulting in driving health and safety metrics lower
- Experience in crisis management
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across multiple cultures
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to influence others and lead teams
- Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
- Proven analytical and organizational ability
- Must possess technical aptitude and strong computer skills including word processing, presentation software, and email system use.
- Ability to travel internationally
