The opportunity
Our Power & Energy Solutions team is looking add a Power Trader to our Power Trading East team focusing on trading the short-term PJM markets, based in Houston, TX.
The Power Trader role includes the ability to set the strategy for managing commodity risks utilizing various hedging instruments, as well as the ability to track and provide updates on the power positional risk and financial results while working with the fundamental and transmission analysts to inform both short term decisions and longer-term strategic initiatives. In that effort, the trader is expected to meet the annual financial plan for the portfolio as well as deploy risk in a consistently profitable manner adding new business value within the risk compliance policies of the company.
What you'll do
- Maintain an accurate power position and deploy risk to add new business dollars to the financial plan while managing commodity risk within Portfolio tolerances
- Collaborate with other stakeholders to build a regional price view to support short term trading initiatives as well as longer term strategic efforts
- Contribute to the overall P&L of the US Power group through financial trading of Power and natural gas instruments
- Evaluate both current and future transmission constraints and outages across ISO and provide direction and view for power portfolio
- Provide all needed asset and power purchase agreement contract management with the assistance of the Origination and Asset Operations groups
- Provide project support as an involved member of the Portfolio business plan projects and support any departmental initiatives
- Take ownership of specific Portfolio topics as regional subject matter expert and provide insights into these topics
Minimum qualifications
- Post Secondary Degree in finance, economics, or a related field
- 15 years of demonstrated success in power trading (preference for regional expertise in PJM but will consider other ISO experience)
- In depth knowledge of the wholesale electricity markets, trading in those markets, and the associated infrastructure supporting those markets
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in data analysis and market modeling
- Demonstrate risk appropriate decision-making abilities
Preferred qualifications
- 10 years experience trading PJM power
- An advanced degree in Finance, MBA, Engineering, or equivalent analytics discipline
- Experience with Python
