TDA Research is an established research and development firm located outside Denver, Colorado with offices in Wheat Ridge and Golden. We have a staff of 100 mainly engineers and scientists who develop cutting edge chemical processes, materials, and hardware for customers in the defense, aerospace, energy and chemical industries. We rely on a high level of technical competence and efficiency within our team and look for motivated, talented, and skilled innovators to join us in developing advanced solutions.

TDA is seeking a highly qualified R&D chemist with a passion for developing advanced technologies and translating them into real-world applications. This position works within an interdisciplinary group developing innovative electrochemical sensors and energy storage devices. This individual will be responsible for designing and overseeing tests on the performance of chemical sensors, and electrochemistry for applications in sensors and energy storage materials. This individual will also perform research and development tasks including electrochemical testing, formulating electrolytes, materials characterization, and data analysis.

This job will consist of a variety of duties throughout the week, rotating between synthesizing ultracapacitor/battery electrode materials, making battery/capacitor cells in a glove box, and testing their performance. They will be expected to be able to operate independently to complete challenging assignments, interface with other research teams, and run aspects of larger projects under the direction of a principal investigator. It is desirable for applicants to have prior experience with electrochemical sensors and energy storage materials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • B.S or M.S. in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline.
  • 0-10 years of experience post-degree advanced technology-related R&D.
  • Lab experience, particularly in electrochemistry, electrochemical sensors, materials characterization, method development.
  • Broad interest in many areas of science, including organic/inorganic/analytical /electrochemistry, advanced materials, energy storage, physics and engineering.
  • A willingness and interest in expanding into new skill sets and research fields.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation: electrochemical methods, EIS, FTIR, UV-Vis, LC, GC, mass spectroscopy, SEM-EDX, XPS, XRD, microscopy, etc.
  • Experience in data interpretation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong work ethic and independently motivated.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to deliver high quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent records keeping.
  • Excellent chemical hygiene practices.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Lift 40 pounds.
  • Sit, stand, or kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Ascend and descend stairs and ladders.
  • May require ability to use dust mask or respirator.

Staff are expected to work on several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Therefore, flexibility and an ability to learn new techniques quickly are essential. Teamwork, collaboration, and clear communication are also important as the employee will need to interface with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists.

Annual salary range: $56,000 to $70,000 with the complete benefits package.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors as education, experience, skill set, and/or location.
