Job Description

TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) is seeking candidates for a Modeling & Simulation / Systems Engineer position. This position will design, develop, modify, and test simulations and related software for Hull, Mechanical & Electrical system modeling, integration, and machinery control.  The position will also include test support, documentation, configuration control, and interface development.  This position will support laboratory and fielded HM&E Systems for the DDG(X) program.  The candidate should be comfortable working with electrical, computer, and mechanical systems.

Salary Range: $80K - $120K


Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Operate in a team environment to address the needs of fielded software and hardware systems as well as develop and test software
  2. Provide software-based modeling of advanced machinery, its physical characteristics and aspects to integrating with control and vessel systems. 
  3. Support the ability to simulate machinery in software for integration and testing activities and support feasibility studies for new system design
  4. Develop new and/or modify existing software
  5. Support testing, debugging, and troubleshooting
  6. Provide technical insights in resolving issues, identifying root cause of problems in software as found in lab and shipboard testing, and recommend / implement solutions
  7. Initiate, investigate and solve technical issues with minimal technical oversight
Job Requirements


Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering - Will consider Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with power systems background.
  2. Master’s degree in Power Systems is a plus
  3. 1 year of experience directly related to software-based modeling of electro-mechanical systems, industrial machinery and control systems preferred.
  4. 1-2 years of software experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance.
  2. Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.
     

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Essential Skills:

  1. Experience and skills with MATLAB and Simulink, including Simulink Coder, SimPower Systems, Stateflow
  2. Experience developing and integrating multi-model Simulink projects
  3. Experience compiling/optimizing Simulink projects in C code for faster than real-time simulations
  4. Familiarity with CMMI Level 3 software development framework and the application of Waterfall and Agile software development practices
  5. Experience with version control software, such as SourceSafe, Subversion, cybersecurity patching/implementer, etc.
  6. Experience designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining software-based simulations
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills


Additional Preferred Skills:

  1. Familiarity with Java, Python, or other programming languages
  2. Familiarity with communication protocols such as DDS, OPC-UA, Modbus/TCP
  3. Knowledge of and experience in implemented Fluid Dynamics/Thermo-Dynamics in modeling environment
  4. Basic understanding of modeling causality and numerical solvers
  5. Hardware-in-the-loop experience
  6. Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience
  7. Knowledge of implementing C code within a server/PLC environment
  8. Experience in Windows and Linux Operating System administration: Windows 10/Server, Linux RedHat or another Linux Shell
  9. VMWare Administration
  10. Bitbucket Administration


Travel: This position may require up to 10% travel.
