What you will do

Act as a regional point of contact and subject matter expert (SME) regarding EHS supporting multiple sites in the Bay Area (California) in all EHS related matters. Ensure compliance with EHS State & Federal regulations and requirements of Tecan’s global EHS management system. Ensure accurate EHS metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems. Support Global Head of EHS Offices in EHS and sustainability programs and initiatives.


Responsibilities will include

  • Driving the regional implementation of Tecan’s global EHS management system (ISO 14001 & 45001) and ensure that global requirements are met.
  • Developing, planning, coordinating, and directing environmental and health & safety programs and activities to protect human health and the environment.
  • Engaging site functional teams and leadership to prioritize initiatives and resources to achieve EHS objectives.
  • Driving accountability to ensure EHS ownership at all levels and instill and foster an EHS culture
  • Developing and maintaining accurate EHS metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems
  • Acting as point of contact for all process EHS related matters and provide day-to-day advice and guidance on related issues.
  • Leading the completion of hazard identification and risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions
  • Leading incident/accident investigations to identify root cause, develop corrective, and preventative action plans
  • Performing site EHS audits to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations and to identify risks
  • Recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures to management and facilitate the business in implementing them
  • Supporting management’s efforts to ensure EHS compliance with State & Federal regulations for multiple sites
  • Interfacing with regulatory agencies and perform job duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines, specifically OSHA
  • Supporting management of site emergencies such as spills, evacuations and medical emergencies
  • Partnering with site training management team to develop, refine, and deliver EHS training content to support regulatory compliance and new hire
  • Ensuring best practices within and across sites under your responsibility as well as with EHS manager from other Tecan sites
  • Utilizing Lean tools and principles (Kaizen, 5S, Gemba, RCCM, etc.) to drive Continuous Improvement of EHS programs
  • Acting as regional point of contact for Global Head of EHS Office and support in executing global EHS and/or sustainability programs and initiatives (e.g., responsible sourcing, CO2 reduction path)

What you bring along

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in life sciences or engineering discipline, or five years of directly relevant industry expertise
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a EHS function, preferably in an international life sciences or medical industry
  • Certified in OSHA Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry or be willing to take steps to gain required certification
  • Internal auditor, First Aid and CPR certificates are a plus
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining management systems such as ISO 14001 & 45001
  • Ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Federal and California-specific regulations as they relate to safety and environmental protection
  • Experience in using lean problem-solving tools (Kaizen, 5S etc.)
  • Strong organizational and advanced project management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various computer applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Comfortable addressing employees at all levels of the organization individually and/or in group settings
  • Ability to work independently, appropriately prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
