JOB SUMMARY
The Manager – Safety and Environmental Health develops, recommends, and implements policies, programs, and procedures which optimize the health and safety of Tech Systems Inc. while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, and safety standards i.e. (OSHA, DOT). The Manager anticipates and identifies unsafe conditions and hazards, while promoting a positive safety culture which meets and exceeds organizational safety standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Audits and identifies safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions.
  • Implements effective loss control measures to reduce incidents, illnesses and injuries; including directing thorough implementation of lessons learned / best practices to ingrain them within the organization's culture.
  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge and expertise to research, review, and interpret regulations.
  • Serves as an expert resource for management on safety and health processes, policies, and regulations.
  • Ensures site management and site inspection representatives are adequately trained for the performance of their tasks. Leads and provides guidance to ensure the culture reflects Tech Systems Inc vision for safety and environmental health.
  • Provides expertise for investigations of safety and environmental health concerns and incidents, develops corrective actions and follow-up mechanisms, and ensures communication of relevant information to management and all employees.
  • Ensures implementation and management of safety training and documentation.
  • Responsible for taking a lead role in key company-wide safety and environmental health projects, including identifying and planning strategic program needs, leading and training interdepartmental personnel, and identifying leading illness, injury, vehicle incident prevention, and loss priorities.
  • Oversees and conducts departmental safety and health program audits to ensure the consistent implementation of technically accurate programs.
  • Develops the organization's safety program to encompass the needs of each unique group.
  • Conducts and provides in-depth research into safety training requirements and assists with the development of effective safety and health training, to include key supervisor and employee training plans that address identified improvement opportunities. Assists with planning the efficient delivery of value-added safety training throughout the entire organization.
  • Assists in the continuous improvement of the hazard identification and safety risk assessment process and the organization's safety management system [SMS].
  • Investigates opportunities to increase the efficiency of processes and measures the effectiveness and seeks to continually improve the quality of processes.
  • Analyzes technical data for trends related to hazards, events and occurrences and provides recommendations to mitigate and/or avoid future losses.
  • Supervises, selects, develops, trains, and evaluates personnel.
  • Forecasts, allocates, and monitors the human, physical, and financial resources for assigned area.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Skill in modeling and promoting an organizational culture that fosters safety practices through effective leadership.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, Visio, safety reporting software, and presentation software.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent safety behavior and attitude, follow regulatory practices and rules, recognize, and promote hazard reporting and ensures effective safety reporting.
  • Ability to effectively utilize applicable processes and procedures to fulfill roles and responsibilities.
  • Ability to utilize presentation software and internet tools.
  • Ability to build and maintain an excellent working relationship with the organization's departmental safety committees and with the organization's leadership.
  • Ability to interact with operational personnel, senior managers and departmental heads throughout the organization.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with regulatory authorities, agencies and service providers outside the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, regulatory agencies, contractors, and field consultants.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include lifting to 25 pounds occasionally. Subject to walking, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, and working at heights, throughout different locations to perform job scope.

Working conditions are in an office and field environment with exposure to inclement weather. May be required to comply with requirements as specified in applicable regulations for personal protective equipment, including clearance for use of respiratory protection and other associated equipment. Also drives a company and/or personal vehicle when performing duties at field locations. May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred:

· Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Advanced degrees and certifications are advantages.

Required:

· 7-12 years of management-level safety professional experience

· Certification in OSHA general industry, OSHA 10/30-hour Instructor, Environmental Management Course, First Aid, CPR, Forklift Instructor, ISO 9001/EMS, and ISO 14001.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $100,000.00 - $107,000.00 per year
