Job Description

IT Network Engineer - Contract-To-Hire Position 
- Fully Remote 
- Can NOT work C2C

Key requirements for this role are:

Heavy Cisco, SD-WAN (Versa), and Meraki experience. The Network Engineer is responsible for providing day-to-day engineering support for the organization’s network infrastructure, hosting approximately 1,400 locations. Responsible for supporting tactical and strategic operation of LAN/WAN/WLAN/SD-WAN, Meraki and VPN communications, including data traffic, data security, and problem resolution. This position is a critical member of the Network Engineering Team, and they will work closely with other team members to collectively design, monitor, enhance and support the overall network infrastructure of the organization with a focus on all aspects of our clients wireless platforms/architectures.

  • This position is approved to sit 100% remote.
  • Responsibilities: Assist in the design, installation, maintenance and support of LAN/WAN and Security infrastructure including Routers, Switches, Wi-Fi controllers, WAN Optimizers, VPN and VoIP solutions using standard processes.
  • Experience in being the escalation point for complex issues. Design, deploy and fix IP and wireless networks; which includes enterprise IP networking, IP network security, authentication, certificates, remote access, network access controls, and IP network management.
  • Assist in the Design and deployment of architectural improvements that will improve performance and reliability of the network (fixed and wireless) and/or fix network deficiencies.
  • Build network designs for enterprise wide and branch office infrastructure initiatives.
  • Trouble isolation and remediation at all layers 1-4 (IP, MAC, RF, and some application level). Proactively research, analyze and recommend new technologies to meet changing business needs.
  • Improve the infrastructure's uptime, performance, and reliability.
  • Secures network systems by establishing and implementing policies.
  • Supervise and optimize network performance for scalability, reliability and usability.
  • Employ and Use monitoring / diagnosing tools to quickly resolve networking issues. Optimally work as part of a team, to meet team goals and objectives. Participate in team projects in an engineering role.
  • Perform and maintain proper documentation. Leading and frequently updating network configuration settings for internal and external systems, including setting up DNS, DHCP, VPN, SD-WAN and VLANs.
  • Modifying both core and edge routers and switch configurations as needed. Providing critical issue support for technical production (infrastructure) issues and follow through to satisfactory resolution.
  • Coordinating install, repair or maintenance of network and telecom hardware equipment.
  • Working with IT Service Delivery, NOC and Operations Managers to maintain hardware and software inventory to ensure compliance and asset management.
  • Documenting and logging changes to network equipment, computer systems, and other equipment. Accurately documenting all new system implementations and modifications to existing systems (moves, adds, changes).
  • Researching and providing guidance on integration of third-party software and tools.
  • Assisting in Disaster Recovery planning, development and implementation. Ensuring compliance with IT Security and Governance processes, such as Change control, SOX and PCI.
  • Working with IT Management to identify and implement technical and service improvements.
  • Ensuring technology documents/certificates such as product registrations, licensing, activations, SSL certificates, maintenance agreements, service contracts, etc. related to technology operations and/or technology services are evaluated, updated and processed.
  • Ensuring networks, and associated software applications are operational; ensures hardware and software is patched and/or updated; ensures all analog and broadband circuits are operational in accordance with vendor specifications.
  • Ensuring the availability, continuity and security of data and information pertaining to the organization.
  • Maintaining knowledge on current technology and evaluates new technologies to gain business efficiencies.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 4 years experience in network engineering roles
  • Experience in trouble isolation and remediation at all layers 1-4 (IP, MAC, RF, and some application level).
  • MUST have experience opening Cisco TAC cases and working with TAC engineers.
  • MUST speak and write efficiently and clearly.
  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills. Experience with SDWAN infrastructure (Versa preferred).
  • Experience with a wide breath of wireless security protocols.
  • Experience within Cloud Management and Associated Technologies.
  • “Excellent” Project Management skills. “Excellent” verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong Network and Architectural Documentation Skills.
  • Experience in an enterprise network operations environment, including large-scale deployments and refresh of multiple technical theaters (focus on wireless).
  • Experience with Meraki Routing/Switching. 6,000 AP in 1,400 US locations.
  • Experience with Cisco Nexus Data Center Enterprise Routing/Switching. Versa SD-WAN experience is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of network and wireless protocols and ports (TCP/IP, SSH, FTP, ICA, HTTPS, etc.)
  • Knowledge of applicable wireless security and privacy practices and compliance with SOX and PCI. .
  • Certifications preferred, not required (CCIE, CCNP, WCCNP, etc.) Project Coordination Skills Excellent ability to organize and prioritize work with direction from Manager.
  • Excellent ability to document and deliver critical dates and achievements to Manager.
  • Excellent customer focus. Assists in establishing operational plans for the area. Assists in developing and implementing new processes and procedures.
  • Requires independent completion of work where judgment and discretion are required.
  • Solutions to problems require innovation and ability to assess multi-functional impacts. Is a recognized problem solver.
  • Communicates and influences within and outside of function. Typically, responsible for communicating externally (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.).
