SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Shipper role supports routine material handling and clerical tasks associated with the shipment of finished goods, consigned materials, or other outbound shipments. Responsible for verification and recordkeeping of outgoing shipments and preparation of items for shipment. Position requires regular and recurrent attendance – minimum of 40 hours per week.
JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Pulls, stages, and prepares product for shipment including any necessary packaging and labeling according to customer order information and provided customer order reports.
- Creates required shipping documents and bills of lading, transacts shipping transactions, and transmits ASN’s to customers based on specifications.
- Performs other shipping activities including supplier returns, subcontracted operations, and customer consigned empty containers.
- Examines outgoing shipments to ensure quantity and weight are accurate and meet shipment specifications, as well as verifies product and packaging is without damage and is loaded properly for safe transportation.
- Operates various material handling equipment including a forklift, hand truck, hoist, and scale in order to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping platform to designated area.
- Communicates with other appropriate Materials Department personnel as well as Production, Quality, other internal departments and contracted carriers as is necessary to coordinate and ensure accurate and timely shipping and material handling activities.
- Performs computer data entry to process inventory transactions required for shipping activities as well as other material movements/transfers with the plant.
- Prepares necessary forms and documents as required by established procedures and maintains records and files required within the Shipping Department.
- Prepares inventory audits or cycle counts, as well as supporting Physical Inventory.
- Participates in inventory ordering procedures related to Kanban and other pull system requirements, as directed.
- Maintains inventory of department materials and supplies.
- Actively participates in Kaizen and other continuous improvement activities.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):
- Education requirement: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience requirements:
- Six to nine months of related experience
- Must be able to pass the Shipping Associate Training Checklist confirming training and knowledge of all procedures in the Shipping Department
- Must be proficient in basic mathematics
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal instructions
