SUMMARY
The Planning Manager analyzes forecasts, plans and schedules products to meet customer requirements, and acts as customer liaison for the company as well as manages the day to day activities in the production control/planning department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Create and implement new processes or process improvements in planning; i.e. identify and prioritize critical issues, evaluate and implement new technologies and procedures that enhance and improve planning success factors.
- Responsible for production planning and capacity planning.
- Manage the manufacturing plan using execution and MRP exceptions.
- Manage forecasted product as required by customer needs.
- Develop, implement and support planning improvements to achieve cost reductions, quality improvement, productivity increases and inventory integrity.
- Reporting of inventory and schedules to meet customer requirements and expectations.
- Perform problem solving, corrective action and process decisions.
- Communicate with and direct other departments on production planning activities.
- Support the development and implementation of production projects.
- Oversee outside operations as they pertain to their respective products as to support the production plan.
- Resolve demand/supply/capacity issues through an S&OP process.
- Redefine production schedules and purchased component delivery schedules upon the occurrence of external customer order requirement changes or internal production delays.
- Define manufacturing capabilities and equivalencies.
- Reconcile component shortages promptly upon order release. Communicate any apparent material shortages to purchasing.
- Assist in identifying and resolving production problems.
- Evaluates work performance, provides regular feedback, and administers performance evaluations.
- Involved in interviewing, hiring and selecting candidates as well as administers counseling and corrective action of department employees.
- Visit vendor/customer sites as needed.
- Additional duties as requested by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has direct supervisory responsibilities of the production control/planning staff and carries out these responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; seven to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory/management and project lead experience required.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of personal computer, keyboard, and various software programs.
- Knowledge of various office equipment.
- Knowledge of ISO9000 standards.
- Knowledge of manufacturing resource planning (MRP) & materials planning.
- Basic knowledge of blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
APICS certification is desirable.
