Anchor/Multi-Skilled Journalist

WOI KCWI Local 5, the TEGNA affiliate in Des Moines, is seeking an engaging, innovative, and experienced Anchor/MSJ to join our morning news team. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership and presentation skills, with the ability to develop unique stories and cover breaking news. They exhibit professionalism and personality both on and off the air. This position demands a strong work ethic, a broad knowledge of current affairs, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Additionally, the Anchor/MSJ must be proficient in shooting, editing, developing sources, and navigating the digital realm. They must uphold a high degree of journalistic ethics. A successful candidate embodies a strong sense of purpose, committed to continuing the "We Are Iowa "initiative of serving our community. The role requires a self-starter with a positive attitude and leadership aspirations. Strong writing skills, genuine energy, and mastery of content are also essential.

Responsibilities: 

• You will be asked to lead, on and off camera, assisting with the show's execution and writing.
• On the air you will need to confidently deliver everything from breaking news to lighter moments in a conversational style, either from the studio or live in the field, including the ability to ad-lib
• You'll be expected to contribute content regularly across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
• Off camera you will be expected to participate in station-sponsored events during the week and weekends as this is an opportunity to connect with the community.
• Exhibit a sound editorial voice and a passion for coaching quality presentation and creative storytelling.
• Other duties as assigned and deemed appropriate.

Requirements: 

• Minimum 1-3 years news anchor/reporter experience.
• The ability to shoot, write, and edit compelling, engaging, and character-driven stories.
• Proven news judgment and understanding of the tenets of professional journalism.
• An understanding of current content-gathering and production techniques.
• Someone who truly loves this job, telling the stories of our community with an authentic personality and great care.
• Ability to work flexible hours, shifts, and shows; early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays (as needed) may be required.
