What are the responsibilities and job description for the OSP Technician I position at Telax Communications?
About the Role
The Telax Communications team of OSP Technicians work directly with employees and subcontractors in the completion of outside plant projects. All team members are expected to uphold the company's mission and core beliefs in everything we do. In this role, you will provide general labor for underground construction projects while complying with safety and quality standards.
What You'll Do
- Perform construction telecommunications installations, including operating power tools and supporting trench digging and closing.
- Installation of underground structures, such as handholes and manholes.
- Attend safety meetings and perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
- Support the restoration of both hard surface and soft surface work areas.
- Assist as required in all manual labor aspects of the project as directed by the crew leader or supervisor.
- Communicate with crew members in placing underground cable and conduits.
- Load and unload tools, materials, or pieces of equipment and assisted with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Locate, pothole, and verify utilities to reduce risks during installation processes.
- Read and construct from a design schematic of map.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Do You Have The Following?
- Related experience working in outdoor construction, excavation, and landscaping is a plus.
- Knowledge of preparation, methodology, tools, and safety related to the placement of underground telecommunication infrastructure is a plus.
- Experience working with and operating construction equipment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
- Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process.
- Enjoy getting your hands dirty with a track record of completing work with a high level of quality.
- High attention to detail with an ability to resolve problems with a hands-on approach to work.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A license.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Ability to stand, kneel, and crouch for long periods, climb ladders, and lift up to 85 pounds.
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment, work in inclement weather, stand, and drive for extended periods of time.
- Physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
- Willingness to travel (up to 100%) and support multiple markets.
