SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Crew Leader with the Transportation Division performs specialized and skilled procedures in road and bridge maintenance and construction; operates heavy and light equipment in all phases of road and bridge construction, maintenance, repair and improvements of County roads; plans, coordinates and supervises the daily work activities of a Department crew in constructing, maintaining, repairing and improving County roads; some physical labor may also be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(1) Supervise crew personnel by motivating, planning, organizing and assigning daily work for the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads according to government specifications.
(2) Assist Operations Supervisor with recruiting, hiring, training and evaluating employees assigned to a crew.
(3) Responsible for managing all leave requests for crew.
(4) Participate in developing the annual budget in collaboration with other Division supervisors.
(5) Perform specialized and technical procedures in road and bridge maintenance and construction; operate heavy and light equipment in all phases of road and bridge construction, maintenance and improvements; as well as during emergency situations.
(6) Administer the timely removal of snow and other hazards from County roads; monitor and respond to weather conditions that adversely affect traffic;
(7) Responsible to ensure a high level of safety for crew employees by compliance with safety regulations and practices.
(8) Responsible for proper care of facilities and equipment assigned to personnel
(9) Respond to calls and coordinate personnel as required in after-hours emergency situations
(10) Fabricate parts and perform welding and installation operations.
(11) Provide support to Operations Supervisor as needed.
(12) Perform similar duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (The following requirements are necessary to reasonably ensure the County that the individual selected for this position will be able to perform the essential functions, tasks of the position.)
(1) Skills/Knowledge:
Working knowledge and ability to apply various Federal and State rules and regulations.
Ability to apply and perform the principles of road construction, maintenance and work zone traffic control.
Ability to manage and coordinate personnel, equipment and materials on multiple projects.
Ability to lead in a positive manner.
Ability to proficiently operate a variety of assigned equipment.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with co-workers and the public
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
(2) Experience/Education: High school diploma or GED plus four (4) years of related public works experience, plus one (1) year at a proven leadership level or any equivalent combination of skills and abilities.
(3) Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must have effective verbal and written skills to communicate with a diverse group of people.
(4) Physical Effort/Dexterity: Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift and carry 80 pounds.
Must be able to use a variety of hand tools.
(5) Environmental Factors: Must be able to work under adverse conditions for extended periods of time. Such conditions may include dirt, noise, rain, snow and extremes of temperatures.
(6) Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week. Varied work schedules are required during certain weather conditions.
(7) Special Requirements: Must be a qualified equipment operator with possession of a valid Colorado
Commercial Class A Driver’s License; possession of a current flagger certification; may require special license endorsement and certifications.
