SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the building level Teacher and/or Principal, provides instruction, guidance, and monitoring for students in the program that will assist them in developing the life skills necessary for becoming meaningful participants within their community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSLicenses/ Certifications
- Colorado certified teacher with an Elementary (K-6) endorsement. Out of state applicants will be considered if they can qualify for a Colorado license.
Education
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Previous successful teaching experience in Special Education and related areas of study
- Participate in all professional growth opportunities offered by the BOCES and attending district
- Willingness to attend CPI training
- Master’s Degree in related areas preferred.
- Bilingual preferred
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide timely assessments, formal and informal, to determine academic and social needs to determine and implement the best mode of instruction for all students
- Maintain all records, progress monitoring, forms, and files required by the program, BOCES/ district and CDE
- Attain knowledge of CPI methods for controlling students in dangerous situations
- Develop and maintain regular communication with parents, community agencies, staff and other designated persons regarding the progress of each individual student
- Improve professional qualifications and effectiveness by participating in all available staff development activities offered through the school / BOCES and attending district
- Provide training and support for all paraprofessionals in meeting the needs of students
- Develop and maintain a system for hygiene services as delegated by the district nurse
- Provide required documentation for Medicaid reimbursement in a timely manner
- Implements behavior plans
- Leads and supports challenging behavior de-escalation and crisis efforts
- Runs academic and social emotional programming with students
- Circulates the building to model positive behavior supports with all students
- Collects and analyzes data and creates materials
- Collaborates with and is supervised by the BCBA
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist guidance, pupil services staff or building administration, as needed.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
