Tellus seeks a Coastal Management Specialist to provide technical assistance to grantees of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office for Coastal Management Coastal Resilience Regional Challenge (CRRC). The CRRC is a historic opportunity to enhance the resilience of coastal communities and regions through capacity building, regional collaboration, and implementation of on-the ground projects. Tellus is looking for highly motivated self-starters to provide support to grantees in the execution of their projects to improve coastal resilience. The role will involve stakeholder engagement and outreach to include community members, underserved and marginalized communities, tribes, regulatory community, and civil society. The Coastal Management Specialist will provide support with strategic planning, develop outreach materials, provide technical insights. The role will require communication and coordination across government agencies and understanding of grant management and tracking. The role is entirely remote, but requires 25% travel across the region they support.
Responsibilities include:
- Act as liaison between the grantees, NOAA, and other government agencies.
- Develop effective engagement and communication strategies.
- Organize, facilitate, and attend workshops and meetings to address grant goals and outcomes specific to coastal resilience.
- Provides advice on grants, cooperative agreements, and project budgets.
- Reviews programmatic performance metrics.
- Provides assistance using data or tools for decision-making.
- Supports communication, training, and outreach efforts.
- Able to accomplish roles and responsibilities with limited guidance and oversight, and take on tasks of increased scope and complexity.
- Requires knowledge of and experience with coastal or ocean management principles, practices, and procedures.
Minimum Basic Requirements for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials include:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, geology, biology, zoology, ecology, or related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 6 years prior work experience supporting coastal management, resilience planning, community engagement.
- Must be able to obtain NOAA public trust to gain CAC and government computer.
- Travel estimated at 25% of the time to support grantees within their region.
- Ability to develop productive working relationships.
- Ability to effectively communicate policy and technical subject matter with a variety of audiences both verbally and in writing.
- Self-starter that takes initiative.
- Strong MS Office skills.
