Job Description: Medical Assistant (CMA)
Reports to: Nursing Director
Time commitment: Part-time (12-18 hrs/week, Afternoons: Wednesday & Friday, Mornings: Saturday)
Pay: $17/hr (PT)
The nursing staff is responsible for the direct nursing care for each student including distribution of medications, and emergency care. He/She also communicates all relevant student medical information to the student’s primary therapist.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performing nursing admission assessments within 24 hours of student’s admission
- Communicating with Telos’ medical director and other contracted licensed independent practitioners regarding medical concerns of the students
- Writing and noting doctors orders in each student’s medical record
- Filling out all necessary forms for doctors appointments and ordered labs
- Receiving results of ordered labs
- Assess students that have physical complaints and determine the need for “sick bed” and then chart in the student’s medical record
- Filling student’s individual medication containers weekly as per doctors orders
- Reordering refills weekly on the student’s medications from the pharmacy
- Picking up student’s medications from the pharmacy
- Preparing student’s medications for off-campus passes
- Disposing expired medication or unused controlled substances as per policy
- Monitor student’s weekly vital signs
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Participate on assigned committees or special projects
- Provide nursing discharge summaries as requested
- Support and assist residential staff in their job descriptions
- Be trained in mentor job descriptions
- Communicate with shift supervisor nursing plans that affect their shift
- Communicate nursing information that needs to be passed along to upcoming shifts in the shift supervisor log
- Communicate with Nursing Director on all pertinent information
- Run errands or drive to other Telos campuses as necessary
- Document in student’s medical record as necessary
- Frequent communication with student’s parents via email
- Obtain parent permission for student medical appointments as needed
Qualifications:
- MA (CMA preferred) or CNA w/ experience administering medications
- Customer service skills
- Problem solving skills
- Detail oriented
- Good interpersonal relationship skills
- Current Utah drivers license
- Flexible work hours
- Ability to organize tasks and responsibilities
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of age group characteristics and ability to work with emotionally challenged teen-aged students
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs
- Psych experience preferable but not required
- CPR and First Aid Certification
