What are the responsibilities and job description for the Server position at Tenafly Pizzeria and Restaurant?
Server responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Greet and seat guests.
- Accurately take food and beverage orders from guests.
- Ensure guest satisfaction and anticipate their needs.
- Provide friendly, courteous service.
- Help clean and reset tables.
- Make sure all flatware and glassware is clean before setting tables.
Other Job Requirements:
- Stamina to endure a 6-10 hour shift mostly on your feet.
- Willingness to work on a team and be a team player.
- Basic knowledge about Italian food and ingredients.
- Ability to use Point-of-Sale system to input and process orders/payments.
- Basic food safety and food handling knowledge- ensure the health and safety of ourselves and our guests at all times.
- Alcoholic beverage regulation- take proper precautions while serving alcoholic beverages to guests.
- Effective communication: Having effective communication skills demonstrates the ability to clearly express information and ideas verbally or in writing in ways others can understand. It also includes confirming that others understand information as you intended. This skill is important to ensure guests understand the menu, beverage pairing options and available food substitutions. It is also important to ensure you can record orders accurately, which may require requesting clarification to confirm they are correct. Finally, effective communication abilities ensure you are able to successfully convey orders to kitchen staff and address any questions guests may have about orders.
- Active listening- make sure you can deliver the guest exactly what they are looking for through fully engaging your attention to the guest.
- Positive language- when a guest requests something that the restaurant can not deliver, be sure to offer alternatives instead of simply saying “no” to make sure they know you care about their experience.
- Problem solving- ability to find solutions that are mutually agreeable between the guest and the restaurant.
- Patience
- Social perceptiveness- the awareness of the reactions of others and the ability to understand why others react the way they do. This skill is important to gauge guests’ satisfaction and anticipate their needs.
