Job Summary:
Performs highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production machinery, facility equipment, and physical structures according to safety and preventive maintenance systems and processes.
Major Job Functions – other duties may be assigned:
· Installs new production machinery and equipment.
· Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions.
· Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, test and makes adjustments.
· Detects faulty operations, defective materials or/or equipment and reports as required.
· Dismantles machines and equipment to gain access to problem area.
· Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
· Provides emergency service and unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs to production equipment during machine service.
· Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
· Repairs broken parts, replaces defective parts and motors, belts, and adjusts feed mechanisms.
· Connects wire to motors, fixtures, and other electrical equipment, replaces switches and fuses, and splices wire and insulates wire with friction tape.
· Performs regular preventative maintenance on machines and equipment.
· Patches or replaces plaster/plaster board and paints walls, ceilings, and trim of buildings.
· Clears clogged drains, and replaces plumbing fixtures.
· Cleans work areas, tools and equipment.
· Removes dirt, dust, grease and waste material from machines.
· Cleans and lubricates machine parts.
· Performs routine housekeeping in and around buildings as required.
· May be required to use personal vehicle at times for work assignments.
· May be required to purchase own tools for use on the job.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of hand tools, ability to understand mechanical processes, possess electronics knowledge, and possess a basic knowledge of hydraulics.
Preferred: Previous experience in a machine shop performing maintenance mechanic duties preferred.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance and/or repair instructions and manuals, and procedure manuals. Demonstrated ability to read electrical schematics.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to handle moderately complex administrative details, such as preparing reports, planning own work and priority of work, and anticipating the needs of others.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee must be available to routinely work overtime or report to work during non-scheduled hours for emergency service or repair as needed, or work different shifts as needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and stand for long periods and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
