The Ideal Candidate shall have:
- Previous instrumentation job experience with:
- Instrumentation including control systems (e.g. PLC, LOGO, Opto, etc.) and programming those systems
- Telemetry/remote communication (cellular, radio, and satellite) and wired ethernet-TCP/IP
- Data acquisition systems (e.g. Campbell Scientific)
- Electrical/mechanical power systems (e.g. universal power supplies, sensors, electromechanical gauges, etc)
- Programming and with software languages – general experience welcome, but preferably Perl and Labview, but also Microsoft visual basic (VBA), BASIC, and C
- Ability to read construction drawings and CAD experience
- Familiarity with low voltage 480VAC/120VAC distribution systems and or UPS systems
- Previous work experience with power meters (e.g. Dranetz)
- General experience/skills with estimating, project management, and fabrication practices
- Flexibility to travel on short notice, but mainly daytrips from Norris, TN
- Willingness to perform work from boats
- Troubleshooting skills
- Previous work experience with/around cryogenic systems, is a plus

Job Summary:
The incumbent provides hands-on engineering expertise and has the technical responsibility to assisting in resolving complex operation and maintenance problems in the field of instrumentation and control systems. Works with broad latitude and reasonable independence to perform and manage routine engineering studies and may prepare/assist in specifications, purchase requisitions, and evaluations of bids for replacement, modification, or improvement of existing equipment and systems. Also conducts field engineering analysis of new designs and modifications to existing systems, improving operations, problem solving, scoping, and planning nonroutine studies for new systems and modifications for generating plants in this area of expertise. Solves problems related to instrumentation and control systems and recommendations relative to this area where no established criteria is available. Makes frequent trips to plants to provide services and to make onsite recommendations.
Supervision Responsibilities:
May technically direct the work of other engineers and technicians by making assignments and reviewing work for technical accuracy and schedule compliance.
Supervision Received:
Under the supervision of a principal engineer or the manager. Assignments are made through general discussions, as incumbent has reasonable latitude in how the work is completed but is responsible for ensuring that the work is properly carried out consistent with expectations. Consults with supervisor when unplanned or new issues impact the ability to achieve objectives.
Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)
Demonstrated working knowledge to apply theories, laws, and principles of electrical and mechanical engineering in developing instrument and control systems and proposed solutions to complex problems with electronic circuitry and equipment.
Demonstrated good communication skills to interact with co-workers and plant personal to acquire and share technical information.
Demonstrated ability to conduct and/or direct in-depth analysis and evaluation of analog and digital electronic circuits and logic to determine if functional operation is satisfactory.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and interface with higher levels of management.
Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited school or university. In depth knowledge of the advanced theories, principles, and techniques of engineering needed to design, modify, or replace instrumentation and control systems and components. Must have demonstrated proficiency in mechanical or electrical engineering as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan or equivalent post engineering graduate education and experience. Must be willing & medically qualified to work rotating shifts & work maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak periods.
