LOCATION - Onsite: Tinker AFB
Due to the nature of this role and Tepa's contractual agreement, this position is required to report to Tinker AFB 5 days per week.
ABOUT THE JOB
Tepa Companies are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to serve as the Mechanical engineering subject matter expert and Resident in Charge (RIC). You will perform the design and direct the development of the construction drawings and develop specifications for mechanical engineering systems. You will provide design and technical review of mechanical systems including, but not limited to; Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Controls; Plumbing; Fire Suppression; Natural Gas Distribution; Compression Air, and Material Handling / Specialty Equipment such as cranes, elevators, and diesel prime movers for power generation.
Job responsibilities include:
- Evaluates projects to determine the most appropriate and economical systems to serve a facility.
- Oversees the preparation of, or prepares, original design and preliminary and final design and of mechanical projects, including size, capacity, and economy.
- Perform HVAC designs for projects such as single or multi-storied barracks; academic complexes; aircraft flight control or simulation facilities; administrative, dining, and multipurpose centers; medical complexes; schools, child development centers; chapels; industrial, manufacturing, and special process facilities; warehouse and storage buildings; machine shops; vehicle, weapons, and fuel cell repair shops; recreation and resource operations buildings; commissaries; refrigeration and cold storage buildings; aircraft corrosion control and paint stripping facilities.
- Participates in final on-site inspection.
- Performs contract related services such as writing scope of work, site surveys, contractor selection, negotiations, construction performance monitoring, product design, design review of internal and external A/E designs, and evaluation, inspection, and acceptance of bids.
- Prepares detailed independent government estimates for use in obtaining project funding and bid evaluation and prepares complete construction document packages suitable for construction contract advertisement.
- Provide leadership and serve as the principal point of contact for design teams within the Engineering Division for assigned projects from design startup through construction.
- Interact with other agency designers, project managers, and top agency officials to resolve conflicts in criteria, develop the design and contracting strategies that result in advertising, contract award, and construction and/or renovation of mission-essential facilities.
- Produces complete contract packages including, but not limited to independent government estimates, drawings and specifications; manages projects from the design phase through completion of construction/renovation.
- Analyze mechanical system design calculations/procedures.
- Perform Life Cycle Cost Analysis to select the most cost-effective building envelope and electrical/mechanical systems
- Reviews designs completed internally or by an outside A/E firm.
- Calculate HVAC building loads using Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, or other building loads calculation programs designed for HVAC and energy simulation.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in a related field
- Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE)
- Knowledge of design for Department of Defense facilities a plus
- Knowledge of the Internal Building Code, NFPA Life Safety Code, ASCE 7, ACI Standards, AISC Standards, and Unified Facilities Criteria
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
- Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Proven planning and problem-solving skills
